I've been using the red iphone 8 on a tmobile prepaid line but I could NOT activate the red iphone 8 on the sprint website as it wouldnt accept it. No idea why.
I ordered the upgrade on my black iphone 8 phone line, called sprint and asked them if I could send a different device. They did something on their end and said they'll ship me a new return kit with the new IMEI.
Phone financing contracts were identical too.

You need to contact apple by chat, and to be persistent…

took me 5 days to get it fixed by apple, there's another Reddit thread with all the step to follow.
- start chat with apple support AppleCare , than you will get a call back than get it escalated to apple engineering to do this…. (Tier 1 support < Tier 2 support < senior support and finally senior support should forward your request to Apple engineering 48h later my iphone IMEI was accepted on Sprint portal)
just be persistent and don't take NO for an answer…good luck.
