A workaround is to use Google Voice (GV) as your principle number and forward GV to the number you get with this deal. In 6 months, rinse and repeat.
Also - refer yourself the 2nd, and subsequent, times to get Tello Dollars (usually 10 Tello dollars each to referrer and referee) to extend the service you get a bit beyond 6 months.
Try coupon code 'DN30' instead. It gave me a 30% discount which brings the price down by an additional 10% to $34.30.

What happens after 6 month?
In my case - I'm on Android, so iMessage isn't something that I look for. Situations vary.
I prefer the ability to keep my upfront costs low (Android vs iPhone) and running costs low (GV vs contract or long standing prepaid); I'm ok with changing my sim, since it's primarily for "data" and not for the "number".
In the case of iPhone users - if you can find a low cost plan with eSIM for a primary number, then it may still be worthwhile changing sims for the "data"; if not, find a provider that works for you, and ignore these occasional offers that won't work out.
What happens after 6 month?
1) Renew with Tello : current prices are $14 per month for the 2 GB plan, or you can modify your plan as required
2) Port out to some other place, if you want to retain the number and get service
3) Terminate, if you don't need it (example folks who pick up new sims / plans for use with GV).

For light users you can also mix and match plans with Paygo when this deal is over. They don't promote it much but it's been good here with data plan only and paygo minutes/texts at 1c. Getting near 30megs out here in the sticks. Plug in a few referrals and it's practically free. My early rollovers are over 6GB now.
