hard drives finallly coming down iin price cause that chia crap is dying, so i'll pass on newegg and wait for someone else to get the 12 or 14TB down around 200 again.

I've been looking almost daily for a few months and this is a really good price, especially new and at a relatively large capacity. The codes stack for multiple units, too (that is, buy 2 get $100 off, for $400 before tax).

good drives, I've bought like 4 in the past 5 years (slightly cheaper prices, but they spiked last year) and they are all still running 24x7 in my media array. Easy to shuck out and put into whatever sort of enclosure you want.
price is not too bad, given that spike for prices during the first year of the pandemic. Bought one for about $160 before the prices went through the roof, but that's been a rare find even back then.
Looks like the prices are creeping down slowly. May see some better deals during Black Friday (week / month) sales, but that's not a guarantee.
If you need a larger sized drive, this may be a good investment. Solid quality, longevity and reliability of WD are evident in this drive.

don't forget to keep automatic backups off your arrays or else your NAS provider's flawed software will get you ransomwared. I luckily only lost Hawaii vacation pictures recently (thanks a QNAP), which I'll hold onto for 20 years until I have a desktop that can force crack the compression password (also when I'll probably actually care about them).

I feel like that chia thing is just an excuse to raise the price, just like they kept the HDD price high SIX YEARS after the flood was over.
We need to stick together to show them we are not THAT gullible.

They're going to make more. These will sit in warehouses. Prices will reset and come down. Don't FOMO.
