The 4 is only 7.5 watts on battery, while the 6 looks like 50 watts. Also the "woofer" is only 2.95 inches on the 4, and 4.72 inches on the 6. While the listed frequency response is the same on each, 50hz to 20 kHz, the larger speaker is likely to sound better.
I literally own both of them dude. Also read reviews. The 4 has more bass than the 6. But way to be an ass for literally no reason
I bought a replacement battery on Amazon and it stays charged longer than the original ever did. It has been over a year of cranking music while I shower in the bathroom with no problems.

Is this worth the extra 50 over the onyx 4?

If you need water protection, 10 watt less power when plugged in. Less bass and more mids.

This is incorrect. The 4 has dual woofers (compared to one on the 6) and has much more bass response.

Meh.

"Conclusions 3.5/5
From a purely sonic standpoint, the Harman Kardon Onyx Studio 6 delivers the kind of thump bass lovers are looking for. But in the portable, outdoor-friendly category, it has some worthy competition. The $400 JBL Boombox 2 is powerful and has stereo drivers, and we're also fans of the $250 Sony SRS-XB43 and the $150 Sony SRS-XB33. All of these speakers can withstand water exposure, and some of them even put on LED light shows. But it's hard to match the Onyx Studio 6's main selling point: gonzo bass response. If that's what you're after, you're sure to be happy."

The 4 has AUX in/out, and the only way I know is the provided picture of the back. The six doesn't have a picture of the back that I can tell. So that may be a difference. I don't see it listed in the specs for the 6 or the 4.

I guess most people wouldn't be looking for this on a bluetooth speaker, but I use a Onyx 2 as my desktop computer speaker and it's great.

update: nevermind, I didn't zoom in on the picture for the 6. It also has the AUX.

you fail at middle school math

2x75mm

1x120mm

A = πr^2

2*4476 = 8952mm^2

1*11309.73 = 11309.73mm^2

Onyx 6 has roughly ~21% more woofer surface area than the onyx 6.

of course thinking surface area of a woofer cone is the only variable in bass would be ignorant as well. there is the xmax (function of the rubber surround and spider suspension,) and the power handling (usually related to magnet size), and also the tuning of the port (or in this case the tuning of the passive radiator,) among many other variables. Judging by the fact that the onyx 6 has only one tweeter but weighs about 30% more than the onyx studio 4 its likely that the studio 6 has a bigger battery AND has a heavier magnet structure than the onyx 4 two woofers.

So, no, it doesnt have "much more bass response", the studio 6 on paper blows the 4 out of the water. On top of that the onyx 4 is a horrible design (i had the onyx 1), the legs make it horrible to carry it around in a backpack, and the exposed passive radiator means you cant put anything on top of it for fear of screwing up the suspension (then it will permanently make a horrible buzzing noise.)

Not sure why you would compare a $150 speaker to a $400 one.

If you like bass buy the studio 6, if you want light shows buy the xb43, just dont expect for it to make any enjoyable bass.

One of these fell off the back of a truck in front of my house.

I turned it on, paired my phone to it. Still sounded great. Ordered a charger for it off Amazon and I've been using it 5ish times a week for the last 6 months with no issue.

Pretty impressed for a speaker that fell off a truck, the fabric's kind of torn but it was the slickest of deals.

I'm not a bass head.

And the $118 Sony SRS-XB33 Review: https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/sony-srs-xb33
More than a "light show." Very good balanced sound.

The $250 Sony SRS-XB43 is PC Mag's Editor's Choice: https://www.pcmag.com/reviews/sony-srs-xb43

I have the six (Purchased on offer up for same price listed here). Definitely worth the price here - Strong sound with a thump on the bass.

Battery life is ok - I have put it to the test a handful of times and was not disappointed.

did you say this or not? if you dont understand physics behind speaker drivers do not post about it. even from a very basic geometric standpoint what youre saying does not hold true.

i have a harman kardon go+play and onyx 1. we dont have the thiele/small parameters of these drivers, but you can extrapolate a lot with surface area and weight. the only way onyx 4 could measure more SPL at lower frequencies is if it had incredibly light weight powerful neodymium magnets and some awesome light weight class D amplifier. I know for a fact it doesnt because in youtube videos of it being taken apart you can see it has normal ferrite magnets.

camelcamelcamel reports used prices get as low as $190. Looks like a very slick deal.

I clicked thinking I needed it and then realized I don't. But I've heard prior versions of this speaker and think it would be great at $200 and that it is perhaps overpriced at $300. If I needed it, I would pounce on the $150 deal. I like the form factor as well. Thanks!
I know this isn't really helpful but I got 2 of these last year @ 100 a piece from a Tmobile promotion posted on here. though that couldve been pricing error
