I was looking for food-safe pizza steels and many of them are $100+ online. I even called a local steel factory and they quoted me $70 just for the steel alone (not coated or treated).

I ordered this steel from Pyro and tested it on a pizza at 550 degrees and it came out perfect. The build is solid, has a gap on the side to function as handles (this weighs a lot), it comes ready to use with food-safe oil coating, and it's made from steel manufactured in the USA/Midwest. Their primary business is huge industrial sized metal ovens, so I think they can be trusted.

If you don't have a pizza steel and are looking to up your home pizza making skills, I would definitely recommend one!

Product Details:
- Made in USA with Heavy Duty 1/4" American Steel
- Radiates heat up to 20x faster than traditional baking stones
- Unique design features integrated hand-holds for secure grip
- Hand-oiled with FDA Food Safe coating
- Lifetime Warranty
- Pizza Steel measures 14" x 16" x 1/4" and weighs 17 pounds
Includes FREE Shipping

You can leave the steel inside the oven at all times, it keeps your oven heat more consistent for baking other things

I don't think many of those options are made in the USA. Personally, I would never buy Chinese steel products to use with food

Two-thirds of the iron and steel produced in the US is made from recycled scrap,

Wow. At first I thought you said "recycled crap" and I grossed myself out thinking about it laugh out loud

FYI I have the baking steel, the one that has grooves in the back for grease dripping so it can be used for smashed burgers for example. If it's flat on both sides, it's going to be a single use item…

I don't leave mine in the oven all the time because it basically acts as a heat shield unless you preheat for like an hour.

I have that one too... would prefer it over this one as it's larger as well - but it is much more expensive atm.

Doesn't take that much longer to preheat - and it actually helps stabilize the temps. It's the perfect place to keep it.

How does this compare to a pizza stone?
