I simply found an Antec that was the right size, the fans were in the right orientation and I had to use a cable splitter to provide power to the optical drive. I had a SATA power splitter and all was good. I think it was a mini AT power supply, definitely a stock item, got it on Amazon.
It is true sometimes they have used uncommon Power supply sizes and shapes and/or unique cabling. I have yet to see that in the last several years. No cutting/splicing issues on the one I did this with.
My R7 comes with an HP 400 watt Gold power supply, which is enough power for the 12GB RTX 3060, 32 Gig ram, etc.
So unless the Power Supply dies, no reason to change it out.
If I was planning to change out the Power Supply and Motherboard, I would simply buy a nice case and build my own from scratch. Yet, at the price, I paid it was hundreds less than doing that.
Big OEM prebuilt a yes. But no not every prebuilt is as non-standard as this. The video I shared gives some alternate option prebuilts that are superior.
I got the Walmart $398 version that came with a Ryzen 5 3500 it's a bargain this one is good if you are planning to sell the gpu for around $300 since it's got APU soso deal if you want it as is
Bought this desktop yesterday, graphics card is a Radeon RX5500 not NVIDIA, processor is $258 on Amazon and card around $300 on ebay, 256gb nvme is Samsung, processor upgrade info ryzen 7 5700g
Wanted to check the RAM for the RX5500 on this. I'm assuming it is the 4GB VRAM version. Thanks.
I picked this up earlier this year and it's a huge steal at this price. I dropped 2 16GB sticks in it and have been impressed. My only negative (understandable at this price point) is the HP mobo that won't let you overclock (or even increase memory speeds).
