Anything other than soft toothbrushes erodes enamel more than you should be eroding it on a regular basis. I've discussed it at length with two dentists and they agree, to say the least. It isn't dependent on gum issues, it's about your enamel, which does not regenerate - you can replace it temporarily with fluoride or hydroxypatite but as soon as you stop using that you lose it again. Why risk it?

And just because a company has always made something doesn't mean it's good for you.
The is obviously cheap, but my understanding is that everyone should be using 'soft' toothbrushes to avoid gum issues.
My dentist gives out branded toothbrushes after every visit. They're all mediums.

After reading this thread, I feel like we need to have a talk.

If you read the fine print of that coupon, it says that it excludes the fresh & clean variety.

If "everyone" obviously needs to use soft then why do they make medium and hard? Obviously, some people need other types of brushes.

Hard toothbrushes are useful for cleaning dentures.

Medium toothbrushes are safe for many people, but can cause gum issues if used incorrectly, which is why most dentists recommend soft brushes.

Correction: Everyone without gum issues who uses other than a soft toothbrush will have gum issues as they get older. It will cause your gums to recede.
