No its dotdot for atmos. The ear level channels and height channels are interchangable, but the subwooofer ones are not. So 7.2 is seven channels (either ear level or height) and 2 subwoofer channels (really its just 1 split..but its marketing to call it .2). So this receiver can do 5.2.2 or 7.2.0. it cannot support 5.1.4 or 7.1.4 (5.1.4 would require a 9.1 receiver, and 7.1.4 would be an 11.1 channel receiver...those exist..but not in this price range).

That's not how it works. People act like they're suddenly entitled to some to something when they pay the tiny annual fee (are you really of the mindset that the pitiful $60 actually covers the loss here?). Do you also act like you can intentionally wreck your cars because you pay for insurance?

If his device had broken 5 months ago and he returned it, that's one thing. But, to go and return it because there's suddenly a different device? "Come on, man." It's literally the reason why they changed the unlimited return policy to 90 days for electronics, because people were grossly taking advantage of it.

Correct, only 1 HDMI output. You can see the pic of the back in the avsforums link.

I've been looking for a new receiver to pair with the Klipsch Reference 5.1 speakers that regularly go on sale for $290. Currently have a ten year old Onkyo HTIB which sounds decent to me but I'm starting to have issues with the receiver. I would only use the receiver with a Fire Stick 4k, all of my audio/video is streamed. My TV only supports HDMI 2.0. This looks like a good deal but I feel the receiver may be overkill for my needs. Should I look at something cheaper?

How does Atmos work on AV Receivers? This has 7 speaker outputs and 2 sub outputs, so does that mean it can do 7.2 surround or 5.2.2 Atmos surround max? The Klipsch 5.1.4 speakers listed at Costco would not work well then since there's nowhere to output the rear height speakers, correct? But man, I was looking at getting a soundbar, but a fully featured receiver like this is making me reconsider.

Check out the 960 on denon.com, it appears to have 2 hdmi outputs...

The Denon S series is their low-end under - powered receivers. Never really like them. Might be OK for wimpy 5.1 setups but anything more and you will be diluting the power each speaker is able to utilize significantly and they won't sound good.

This is a common scenario for Costco-exclusive models of electronics. That being said, over on the avsforum somebody noticed that the Denon HEOS app was just updated and support for this new model was listed in the release notes. So that's the only official publishing I'm aware of right now haha.

Oh damn, I thought it was just me. I bought a 3310ci many years ago (and still have it).

I think I am a reasonably intelligent person, but for the life of me I could not understand the manual, the OSD or the onboard web utility. I had to resort to AVS Forum and BatPig's write up of the unit to get it configured correctly.

I love the power and sound of the Denon AVR. However, that experience is the one thing that is making me shy away from ever buying another Denon product.
