If his device had broken 5 months ago and he returned it, that's one thing. But, to go and return it because there's suddenly a different device? "Come on, man." It's literally the reason why they changed the unlimited return policy to 90 days for electronics, because people were grossly taking advantage of it.

I'm interested in that combination and wanted to hear what owners think of it.
Heres the deal in my opinion:
A) If you want to get into Home Theater as a hobby, this isn't a good starter point, you probably want to skip this low level and get something "better". You can probably buy separates that will be better for a similar price. Any HT enthusiast would suggest putting this $ into a 3.1 system and later buy the additional 2.X.2. But this advice is again, if you want to get into speakers as a hobby that you'll upgrade frequently and ultimately will cost thousands and thousands of dollars.
B) You want something thats set and forget and WAY better than any sound bar, then this is an incredible set. I got them since i had a budget, and these fit into it as a full setup (cheaper than high end soundbars too). I dont plan on updating them anytime soon, one purchase (well really three...need the AV receiver and a sub) and i was done and it comes with all the benefits of Costco. The Atmos isn't incredible (upfiring never is), but it pairs well with this receiver.
Just a warning, this set gets delivered as one giant box...its like half the size of a car. If they have it in store, its usually $100 less, and it goes on sale for $100 off fairly frequently (i think it was $200 off at one point).

Which is it?
the power rating of AVR has to do with the voltage and current it drives. since speaker impedance changes with the frequency, it is normally measured within a range, say 20-20k with low THD, this is the number you should care.
but it is possible to check at a single point with some absurd high THD, often at 1K tone with 1 channel, to post a best possible power rating.
i am not surprised that the 75 watt is the real value, and the 110w is the highest possible value (that is only for marketing purpose).
take the TSR 700 for example
20-20k HZ with 0.06% TDH, 8ohm with 2 channel driven is 100W per channel.
1kHz with 10% THD, 8ohm with 1 channel driven is 150W <--- completely useless number unless 1khz is all you listen to.

edit.
i was largely correct.

75 W + 75 W (8 Ω/ohms, 20 Hz – 20 kHz with 0.08 % T.H.D.)
110 W + 110 W (6 Ω/ohms, 1 kHz with 0.7 % T.H.D.)
it has many flaws. normally i'd take back to costco and ask for a refund, but since i did use it for about a year so, i didn't feel right to do it (and that i throw away the boxes), and hoping yamaha would fix the issue.
long story short, this is my 2nd unit, i returned the first one after i experienced some problems, but nope. it is badly designed.
1. no 4k/120, well, hopefully that get fixed later
2. PS4 must be plugged in to the 1080p port, or else you will have black screen for about minute every time HDR content comes on
3. ARC support form TV is awful. 80% of time it doesn't work when i change form other source to TV, and requires me change TV audio out to something else, and swap it back to ARC (77CX).
4. machine would freeze at time. require complete power off and disconnect of all HDMI port to return to function (actually stated in the manual).
honestly, it is 330 dollar down to the drain, because amount of problem, no one except me in the family knows how to make it work every time.

I'm disappointed the the hdmi ports are basically going to to be useless for high end gaming I think yamaha should offer customers some sort of upgrade but I doubt it.
Yes, I had the original box and everything. They asked what was wrong with it. I said device is buggy and hardware flaw. They briefly looked inside the box and refunded.

I'm guessing yes they will be fine, especially since I'm not cranking them up ever

Unless my calculations are off, 75w output could power a 8ohm 88db sensitivity consumer speaker up to 8.66 meters away. Typical home theater rooms isn't that big and most don't listen at 88db so plenty of juice.
