No its dotdot for atmos. The ear level channels and height channels are interchangable, but the subwooofer ones are not. So 7.2 is seven channels (either ear level or height) and 2 subwoofer channels (really its just 1 split..but its marketing to call it .2). So this receiver can do 5.2.2 or 7.2.0. it cannot support 5.1.4 or 7.1.4 (5.1.4 would require a 9.1 receiver, and 7.1.4 would be an 11.1 channel receiver...those exist..but not in this price range).
Damn. I bought my 750h 5 months ago. I cooooould return it. But that's kind of a dick move for a perfectly working item
That's not how it works. People act like they're suddenly entitled to some to something when they pay the tiny annual fee (are you really of the mindset that the pitiful $60 actually covers the loss here?). Do you also act like you can intentionally wreck your cars because you pay for insurance?

If his device had broken 5 months ago and he returned it, that's one thing. But, to go and return it because there's suddenly a different device? "Come on, man." It's literally the reason why they changed the unlimited return policy to 90 days for electronics, because people were grossly taking advantage of it.

Good job SD inflated the price
With none of their locations near me, I'm just glad I was able to order it online.

Unless my calculations are off, 75w output could power a 8ohm 88db sensitivity consumer speaker up to 8.66 meters away. Typical home theater rooms isn't that big and most don't listen at 88db so plenty of juice.
Sounds about right. Like I've posted several times in this thread, most people don't realize how little power they need to power their speaker in most real life use cases. Especially if they are crossing over to a sub properly.

The number of people running their systems at THX reference levels are miniscule compared to the general public who do have AVRs and speakers. Most of them will already have a solid understanding of equipment and power requirements or paid a professional with that knowledge to set their systems up for them. I'm also guessing most of them will not be on here looking for deals on entry level AVRs or speakers though. Well, not for their primary systems at least.

Seriously, return it. You dont need the box, and this is why Costco has the policy they do. The Yamaha is a flawed product that wont ever be fully fixed and wont ever fully support HDMI 2.1. Just pack up everything you have and take it back and put it towards something else (this denon or just some snacks and organic fruit!)
went to Costco and see them have a pill full of the S760H (at least 30 plus), got one with returned the TSR 700.

i didn't have any of the box material, just picked the TSR 700 and drop in a paper box. guys at costco didn't even blind an eye and did a refund. all i said was HDMI problem requires board swap, and he was like "and that never happened".

no check serials, not even looking at the device. this makes me glad that i did all my major purchases from costco even though their price aren't always the best.

anyhow, everything works right off the bat with Denon. no stupid mode 1 or mode 2 selection or strange ARC not working. i am glad that i took your advice

Well, obviously it's worth $225 or so plus tax. Is that worth it to you?

How could anyone else answer that? Someone else would need to know why you wanted the 960, what it has over the 760 that you value, and if $225 plus tax is worth your time and effort. I don't think anyone else could possibly know any or all of those things.

The s960H only has one 8K port while this has three. Is that enough to convince you to save the $225?

I set this up with an existing prewired four speaker system. I have it set up with two front, two surround. What I'd really like to do is set up a center speaker and a subwoofer. Are there any recommended wireless options?

I've been looking for a new receiver to pair with the Klipsch Reference 5.1 speakers that regularly go on sale for $290. Currently have a ten year old Onkyo HTIB which sounds decent to me but I'm starting to have issues with the receiver. I would only use the receiver with a Fire Stick 4k, all of my audio/video is streamed. My TV only supports HDMI 2.0. This looks like a good deal but I feel the receiver may be overkill for my needs. Should I look at something cheaper?
Please note that Fire TV doesn't have DTS, DTS-HD or TrueHD.

Also, you cannot really get the full experience of 4K and sound using a Fire TV. This is something I've just recently learnt myself and I've been loving my Fire TV cube and the prior generations.

However, when I heard that I switched to Shield TV and using Plex for 4K content and it's major upgrade to Netflix or HBO Max 4K streaming.

Lossless audio is quite a feast to the ears if you have good speakers and AVR.

Like most people, been waiting for this for awhile now with HDMI 2.1 and eARC compatibility. Bought it specifically for this feature to replace a Yamaha 7810 and pairing with a Sony 83" A90J. Audio does not work at all through eARC. I've tried every setting possible between the AVR and the TV with no luck. Hard resets, check firmware updates, software updates, etc. Sony tV recognizes the Denon but no sound and manually switching sound output from TV to AVR fails each time. Had high hopes for it to just work but of course that almost never the case. ARC and eARC has always been a sh*t show along with HDMI CEC. Had to turn off BRAVIA Sync because it randomly turns on the Blu-Ray or AVR for no reason all the time. So be forewarned if you have a 2021 Sony TV and want to use this Denon. Who knows how long it will take for them to update the software.

Streaming services use DD+ which is lossy audio. If you're using Plex you must be using other sources instead of streaming apps.

I have 65 A80j. I don't have this issue. The only issue I have is that HBO max native app doesn't send atmos out. This is an issue with Android TV though. Disney and prime both send atmos without issues.

The problem that I have is that the receiver is under powered. I have to increase volume to 65 and I think at 75W this is normal? I wish this was 105W .. thoughts on 3700H as urlhasbeenblocked offered 1149.. or wait for NR7100 and use this as stop gap till then

Ignore the numbers on the display. At max volume, or as high as you can comfortably take it, is the loudness sufficient?

Unless this system and your previous system are calibrated to the same reference level, the number 65 is no indicator of anything. The difference between 75W and 105W of power is just a hair over 1dB increase in volume. It will not be an earth shattering experience as far as upgrades go. Properly calibrated and set up systems with a sub will use far less power than 75W.

Search this thread for my previous posts and you will be able to calculate how much power you will truly need. Most people will not need 75W/CH in real world use.
