I cashed out my discover cash back for the happy gift cards last year that had Lowe's and GameStop. If your plan is to try to convert to third party gift cards, I wouldn't recommend it. For Lowe's, all the stores around me in Chicago have simply stopped carrying third party gift cards. While on a trip to Bloomington, I stopped at a Lowe's with third party gift cards but the cashiers and manager would not let it me use the happy gift cards to buy them. I ended up using them to buy GameStop gift cards at a GameStop in hopes of buying an Xbox Series X. It's obviously pretty hard to liquidate a GameStop gift card. I'm sure others had easy experiences, but for anyone thinking to quickly convert these to Amazon gift cards it's seriously YMMV.

Depends on the location. The card specifically says that no gift card can be purchased, but some Lowe's employees don't check on them.

Please note that at my local Lowe's, gift cards can only be purchased at a manned register (i.e. no self-service kiosk).

Yes, and that's what makes these a good deal. These are run as credit gc's which Happy doesn't sell directly. I used over $500 last winter to buy Amazon GC at Lowes using the same method.

Isn't this more of get additional value of your rewards vs. 20% off? As you have to spend a dollar to earn a point(or 5 if using rotating categories) then redemption of that point gets you 20%. But i guess people might know this.

Thanks, OP. Just bought 4 $50 Happy Holidays GC ($200) for $160 in CB Bonus, leaving me only $8 in CB left over. I hope they offer this again during or near Christmas, as I'll build up more during the next three months buying stuff from Amazon, Walmart.com and Target.com.

Yes, it's better to think of it as a 25% bonus rather than a 20% discount. So your $1 in rewards is really worth $1.25 when applied to a Happy card.

The best data point I can give was from last year.

Last year I redeemed $160 for $200 Happy Holidays on 11/7. I then redeemed more on 11/26.

I don't recall exactly but it seems I waited for the first card to come in and verify it could be spent @ Lowes for 3rd party GC before redeeming more CB almost 3 weeks later.

It is not technically free ... however at lowes i didn't pay anything ... Here is my breakdown

1. I redeemed $200 holiday card on Discover for 160
2. went to lowes and bought a $200 amazon card
3. paid with the holiday card
4. essentially i got free $40 ...
