Who is this gears towards? I'm not being rude. But low end i3, low end ram and hardly no storage? Wouldn't a refurb/used older W10 laptop be better?

Web surfing, email, video streaming, word processing don't need much in the way of specs or storage.

I guess. But 64Gb SSD and 4Gb Ram isn't going to do much I assume. Unless everything you did was either streamed or stored in the cloud?

I use my Chromebook with a Celeron dual core and the same about of ram almost exclusively now adays. It works well with steamlink and other game streaming options. Look at what you use a computer for most of the time and you will be surprised

I mean that's kind of the point of a Chromebook. Local storage doesn't really need much. ChromeOS runs ok with 4gb a lot better than Windows that's for sure.

Yes this would be insufficient for Windows. In Chrome it is fine. I have a Flex 3 with a Celeron 4020 and only 32GB memory. It is plenty fast enough. Similar to my Flex 5 I5 8GB Ram and 256GB SSD Windows 10. Only on occasion was that Flex 5 faster.

I don't understand when people make such claims. 4GB of ram is more than enough for the average user, and enough for many of today's demanding applications. I have an 8 year old i3-4130 chip and "only" 4 GB of RAM in my old HP Windows 7 computer and it runs my DAW recording software, affects and VST's flawlessly. Heck, I still use my Compaq laptop with 2 GB of ram from 2011 on occasion which is still fine for web based activities. It was also the first computer I installed and ran recording software on (Sony Acid 7 Pro). Applications loaded slow and it was glitchy, but still did the job for a few years.

Better at what?
If what you do most of the time is web browsing, or things that can be done in a web browser (e.g google docs), a W10 laptop is not better.
Chromebooks are light, cheap, have great battery life, are brand new, starts up in seconds and don't bug you about viruses and updates.
An older W10 machine is likely worse in all of those categories.

Chromebooks can also run Linux programs, which is probably what these higher end Chromebooks are aimed at.
Otherwise, the weaker processors (Celeron N4020 et al) are usually enough.

In for 1. Been looking for a chromebook the last 2 weeks and have read up quite a bit on them. This is a steal at $300 with these specs and features. Thanks for posting.

Is this the one with plastic hinges known to fail?

I had to return the Lenovo Flex Chromebooks in Costco due to a very well known display hinge issue. We noticed small crack developing at the hinges only after few uses. Luckily it was under 90 days. Good 🤞

You're using the hinge wrong.

I don't think so.
My hinge broke after only the 3rd walnut I tried to crack open with it.
