I don't know whether the stand is "useless", but to some people it may be worth the $22 difference.
The two speeds are a nice option, but I find that the slower speed is plenty fast. If you want the best surface, you need to use the slower speed anyway. The speed is only regarding the feed speed at which the board is passed through at. The blades move at the same speed regardless of the speed you select. Meaning that you get more blade passes at the lower speed yielding the best surface. The unit with the extra blades comes out cheaper than buying the blades and unit separate. The blades are not hard to switch out. You're going to mess up the first set doing something like not removing that embedded nail/ screw that was hidden.
As for the table that comes with the one from home depot: Plan on adding weight to the base or this will tip over easily when moving. This thing weighs around 100 pounds and rolling on that small of a base is a joke. Either add weight (60 pounds+) to the cart base, build your own, or just find a base cabinet for free on craigslist and add wheels for mobility. The latter option is what I did and it provides me with a few drawers to keep supplies in pertaining to this unit.
So as far as the extra blades, and outfeed table, I find them to be worthless.
If it were me, I'd wait until they had a sale on just the planer, then buy a Helix style blade to install in it.
Together, we can eliminate chatter!!! (But I'm more focused on eliminating slotted, phillips, and square (Robertson) hardware head designs! I will not rest until those vile beasts are smeared from the surface of this planet!! Lol.)

Personally, I do not trust any mass produced stand to mount my tools on. Especially if in my shop. Any time a company makes a product, they equate a great deal of effort into cutting costs. (Something Dewalt has done well for profits, but poorly for their consumer ... see DWS779 type 21 and up. 😞😓😩.)
I have mine on a flip table right now, but I'm (sort of) in the process of making it a dedicated work station. Then I can have MUCH stronger support arms that can give me infeed and outfeed adjustability.
My planer didn't come with the stand and just from the picture, I know I can't use it. There is a 1" drop from my garage floor to the drive way. There is no way I can wheel that stand over the 1" ledge with those tiny wheels supporting over 100lbs. I got a tip from a post in the Ridgid universal miter saw stand thread to mount the planer on top of it. Great idea! I can wheel the stand around in the open position and those 12" wheels go right over the ledge like it was nothing.

That's a good way to find yourself on a Canadian Most Wanted poster.
