I have two sets of these and they're great. If you have an echo Dot lying around, use the 3.5 mm jack to turn these into Bluetooth capable speakers. I keep the dot on mute and just send it there for my music and it works great.
I've had mine for about 3-4 months. Awesome speakers. Use some black electrical tape to cover up the bright light. Don't mess with the volume knob once set. Use the pc or other device to control the volume. Keep the speaker wires from touching other wires to reduce any interference. People say the quality has gone down over the years. IMO, as long as you do some prepping, it is hard to find a better value for speakers today.

Edit: Forgot to add. My speakers are plugged into an Alexa smart plug so it is easy to turn on and off. I have it synced to be able to turn on and off with my PC monitor although sometimes I am too lazy to even talk and wish there was just a button. lol
I had issues with hum. Found it to be the power supply for my uplift desk causing interference. I moved the control pod to the opposite speaker and that 3 foot distance change decreased the hum drastically.

The thing about this set is you have to spend at least a couple hundred to match what it does. Do separates sound better. Yes of course. Do they cost anywhere near this price. Heck no!

Bought and returned last time. Could not stand the white noise it emits. Shame because it sounded good when something was actually playing.

Quote from Gerbs :
I'm still rocking the 5.1 set.. two fronts two rears and a sub. Still going strong after 20+ years

I had the circuit board beefed up at some point nearly a decade ago+ by some guy where you ship in the board and he switches out (upgrades) a bunch of components and then sends it back.. I think it was $125.
My front 2 speakers on my 20+ year old 5.1 set finally blew. I was in the other room and turned it up pretty loud so I could hear and they finally cracked. Moved the rear 2 to the front and still rock the original 5.1 as a 2.1 system. If products were still made like those, no one would ever have to buy speakers again. (probably why they don't build them like that anymore)

If you want Great sounding PC speakers, look no further and just buy these. Buy another set for someone you love. Buy one more as a backup. You'll never regret the purchases. My guess is that these will be gone well before Christmas, so don't wait.

Because there's no power button on these speakers, I use a wifi outlet from urlhasbeenblocked (but any will work) for this so I'm able to turn it off. Only thing is the speakers will 'pop' and it doesn't sound very pleasing every time I turn it off….So I just leave them on lol.

Yes. Why does it make that loud buzzing and popping sound? It happens also when i unplug the audio out cable from then laptop to turn it off.

I picked these up for $90 a few months back and think I got an incredible deal on them, so this is fantastic.

My only criticism is there is no real "off" button on the unit, so the light is always on the unit. And, honestly, for that's not even that bad.

Highly recommend. Great value.

I use these as TV speakers. They work great!

I'm thinking about order another set for another TV. But I'm still shopping for the new TV. This will depend on if the new TV has a 3.5mm port (uncommon these days). There are solutions for lack of 3.5mm port, but not ideal for me.

In the end, my priority will be the TV.
I use these with a TV without 3.5mm Jack

I just use an Optical to RCA converter box that I got on eBay for ~$10.

Anybody use those for TV speaker ?

I have 3 sets of these in my home, one for an echo dot, one for a set of speakers for my Mac Mini and one for my Living room TV. I have a really wide open living room and I've tried a variety of different speakers/sound systems to help fill up the room, but all of them always kinda fell short. I finally decided to give one of these and shot and they work BEAUTIFULLY! I have them connected to my Apple TV via a cheap Bluetooth 3.5mm to bluetooth adapter I picked up on Amazon and works PERFECTLY! As someone else stated earlier, I only have to set the volume on the speakers once (literally these things get SO LOUD I literally can't go much higher than like 1/8 volume) and I can control the volume up/down (to that peak volume) through my Apple TV. Would highly recommend a set like this to anyone looking for a robust but affordable sound system.

Something you might consider (like someone else suggested in this thread) is getting a Wi-Fi plug (like Wemo or TP-Link or something) for like $10 and use that to turn these on/off as needed. I don't know why I never thought of that (like literally have 5 spare plugs just sitting around thanks to my Slickdeals addiction 😂) and think I'm going to go ahead and do that for one of my sets.

I remember buying these roughly 30 years ago… not kidding. They were ~$250 back then. I am tickled to see they are still exactly the same.
yep, my set from the early 00s just lost all the sub's plastic wire speaker clips in a move so i'm trying to figure out how to repair them. bought a "similar" logitech Z625 2.1 set that is absolute shit in comparison. $150 and i'm so pissed

These sound great - thumping bass!
Logitech BT adapter is another great option for bluetooth capability.

Why not wait for an Echo Dot sale?

This was $249 at launch 20 years ago. $149 from 10 years ago?
With inflation, they can't possibly keep the quality same. Can they?

The internal component costs have gone way down. The use of switch mode input supplies and class D amplifiers have made it very cheap to produce the electronics.

As others have noted, these will produce noise or hum if the connections are bad. Make sure all of the cables are securely connected, and experiment with different placement if necessary, like move the signal cables away from power cables.

And they're great to pair with an Echo Dot or similar. Then you've got Bluetooth, music streaming, and voice control. You could also add a smart outlet if you'd like to be able to turn the speakers off easily. There's a 3rd gen Echo Dot w/ color smart bulb for $25 right now: https://www.amazon.com/Echo-Dot/d...BWMP/?th=1

I was lucky enough to get a set off the Walmart deal a few months back. The quality is not the same as the set I had back in the early 00's but they still sound amazing.

The set did have the noted hum and nothing I tried seemed to help. I contacted their support team and they replaced them no problem though. The new set is completely hum free sitting in the exact spots the first set was. I highly recommend anyone struggling with the hum to reach out to customer service.
