Plug in model $14.60. Uses AA batteries instead of 9v for backup.

Plug in model with ppm logging $22.48. Uses 9v battery (use lithium because alkalines aren't high enough voltage)

CO detectors can be placed anywhere because it mixes with all of the air rather than rising like smoke does.

These are great for when you go camping. Leave inside the tent if you use a buddy heater or something similar.
Plug in model is $14.60. Down from alleged normal price of $29.99.

From the EPA: "Because carbon monoxide is slightly lighter than air and also because it may be found with warm, rising air, detectors should be placed on a wall about 5 feet above the floor."
Seems like the plug in model isn't ideal since outlets are generally 18 inches of the floor.

Very good deal. The plug in carbon monoxide detectors are really convenient and technically can be mobile.

Just installed my own dual smoke/cm detector. FYI I used this video as a guide: How To Replace A Fire Alarm - Step by Step https://youtu.be/4NzkKGVhWlk

Tons of other good tutorials out there on yt if needed.

First alerts ones are normally two pack for 30$ at Costco, if you have membership and not in a rush to jump on these. Although, I do see these are 10 year warranty vs 7 from first alert (I think).

Mr Buddy Heaters cannot produce carbon monoxide. They are catalyst heaters and not parabolic.
I just learned something new. Didn't even know that was a thing. Thanks.

I ran a six foot extension cord to mine. Its on top of our bedroom armoire as sticking it in a wall jack didn't seem smart.

I purchased this back in 2018. This exact model saved my family on December 26, 2020. It went off when we were sleeping. The fireplace apparently had a gas leak.

Can anyone recommend an alarm that can not only detect carbon monoxide but also detect gas? It doesn't necessary has to be combined, gas only alarm will work, too.

My previous plug in style started chirping nonstop after that time has passed telling me to discard it. I now use the combined fire/co ceiling detectors but they should also only have a 7 year life from what I understand.
Oh, how I wish it had been nonstop chriping! The chirping our device would let out seemed to be random-ish (which I suspect it wasn't, but felt that way), so it was like this horrible 3:00 AM game we were forced to play to try to figure out what the heck was making that beeping noise. It didn't help matters that it was on a shelf. Mad

Been waiting for a deal on plug in ones, so good finds. Battery ones are a PITA because alkaline 9v batteries aren't high enough voltage, so they will chirp after just a month or so of use. You've got to buy the expensive lithium 9v batteries to avoid the chirp.
I have had 3 of the these battery operated models for several years now. They do not eat batteries whatsoever. In fact one in a remote room I forgot about went over two years before it complained of a low batteries (and they are on regular Duracell coppertops, not Li).

Cars emit CO in their exhaust. So no, unless you're 100% electric vehicles you'd be setting off a CO detector all the time.

You know, assuming you park cars in there and it's not just storage, lol.

I use one in my garage next to the gas water heater and never had a problem with my car setting it off.
