What is it about geeks that makes them turn every farking tech post into an argument? If you care this much about computer chips then you need to get a farking life. STFU so the rest of us can learn about tech. Or instead of typing your internet cock measuring bullshit, why don't you contribute and help people learn?
never had a strong opinion about something? just randomly add "xbox series X > ps5" into a thread like this then walk away.

Funny. I am in the same GP66 boat with the others. I just can't get away from the 2 year warranty and then the $100 Squaretrade warranty as well.

Our community has rated this post as helpful. If you agree, why not thank

This thread has been disappointing in terms of helping somebody make an informed decision. I'm going to try to help a bit.

Don't listen to the "last year's chassis" guy. Most laptop makers don't really even "make" their own laptops. Faceless tech companies will sell them the design. In this way it's possible that you get a laptop from one company that is internally similar to a laptop from another. Like if MSI and Lenovo bought their design from Quanta computer, then those laptops may be more closely related than you'd imagine.

What matters to you, the consumer? 1stly, the CPU and GPU chips, along with the RAM and storage. Secondly, (mostly for gamers) you need to consider wattage and cooling. You may think a 3080 beats a 3070, and you wouldn't be wrong to think that way. The issue is that if the 3080 is being underfed by low wattage, it may underperform vs the 3070.

Cooling is an issue too. Heat kills electronics. Laptops are a compromise solution to begin with, due to packing an entire computer's hardware into a compact space. When your laptop heats up, it's programmed to scale back performance in order to reduce thermals. This is good...you don't want your gear to cook. But the downside is you lose performance when this happens.

You can have the two different laptops with the same specs, and due to the thermal solution, they could perform differently. Add in the fact that each laptop has its own wattage rating, and you can have wildly different levels of performance between similarly specced laptops.

Honestly, it's a nightmare for the common consumer. So it's up to us to set the record straight and help people understand. I'll post the details in a different comment since this one is long enough.

The big question is which of these two deals should you go with? Costco's MSI, or Lenovo's, well, Lenovo. Both are similar specs and around the same price.

Size:
The Lenovo is bigger! At 17" it's more a desktop replacement than a portable gaming powerhouse. The bigger chassis does a lot of good things at the expense of the real estate on your desk. It's up to you personally with what you need.

CPUs:
The i7-11800H beats the Ryzen 7 5800H for gaming. It isn't a huge difference, but it's there. Ryzen's better for multi core processing tasks. They're both current-gen CPUs. Both are going to give you a great experience!
See this video for the nitty-gritty: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Iewhlouh2w

GPUs:

https://psref.lenovo.com/syspool/...eet_EN.pdf

It's the same GPU, but the question is about the wattage. If the above doc is right, then the Lenovo is a 130 watt part, which puts it line with high performing 3070s, such as the one in the MSI.

Screen:
They're both 1080p 144hz screens. A lot of people are crapping on the MSI, but keep in mind the size difference. 1080p at 17" is less pixel density than 1080p at 15".

Thermals:
I don't have graphs and numbers, but the intel CPU will run hotter. Also, the Lenovo is a larger laptop, so its chassis should allow for better heat dissipation. This is a good thing, if you want to deal with the larger size. Heat kills electronics, so the less heat the better.

RAM and storage:
They have the same capacity. I don't know what drives and sticks of RAM they've sourced for these models. This is something you can swap out though, if the stock options aren't that great. As for which SSD is faster, or which RAM has better speed, I'm not sure it matters. They probably aren't exactly the same, but I doubt it will be a performance difference you'll "feel."

Ports:
Lenovo has more ports. Again, bigger laptop, more stuff.

Price and Value:
Both are good deals, and I wouldn't put any stock in things getting better for Black Friday. If you want a system now, I wouldn't wait.

The Lenovo seems like it can be slightly cheaper, especially if you're a military member. But don't forget about Costco's 2 year warranty. But here again you need to be a Costco member to reap that benefit.

Both MSI and Lenovo have done shitty, shady things. I wouldn't put one's customer service ahead of the other. I personally had a bad experience with Lenovo gaming laptops back in 2014, but I realize that's just my anecdotal experience.

This isn't an awful deal, but if you find the Walmart Lenovo Legion 5 Pro deal, it's way better (Better Display for 1529.99, 1399.99 if you can find it in store). Its still intermittently going in and out of stock on Walmart.com

Idk
I won't buy amd products. Not when Intel does things better. I always choose Intel over amd, kinda like apple to Android. Couldn't pay me to use windows.

Always buy the Intel variant
So should I buy Intel over AMD in a slim and light gaming PC?
