I know 8GB is "good enough" but if you are buying an XPS, you don't want "good enough." Looking forward to a deal that has at least 16GB of RAM.
You can't look at available ram usage that way. The os keeps things in ram it might not need anymore in case it does again later, then frees it up if needed. Unless the applications you are actively using need it all you are fine.
My 5 year old laptop with 8gb ram had 50+ tabs or browser opened and movie watching at the same time and it was smooth. 8gb isn't going to make it noticeable for most kind of usage.

Is the RAM upgradable on this? I have 32GB (2×16GB sticks) waiting for a home.

Been looking for refurbished but prices are about the same for latitude versions. What's the difference between them? I have had latitudes for last few years and they seem ok, xps seems like they are nicer. I would prefer 16gb as well but the rest of the specs seemed ok. Is win pro necessary? What about waiting for touch screen? Thanks!

It says LPDDR, so the RAM is soldered. I don't think it has any socket for expansion, either. Dell's spec sheet says nothing about that.

I bought last week and upgraded to windows 11. It has only 3.7 gb available in ideal condition. I am returning this item. Looking for 16 gb version in I5

If you buy an xps you usually expect to spend a lot more than this. If you have $700 to spend its a solid option to consider- do you want 16 gigs of ram and a larger disk or a killer screen and build quality? Its a trade off.

What about tossing Linux on this instead of resource-sucking Windows?

I have to say that is one of the first things I check with these deals. I'm starting to think LPDDR4 should be in the title as RAM upgradeability for an 8GB machine is a significant consideration for many folks. The screen is great (another thing I check, but I knew an XPS would be good), of course, and 8GB may be acceptable for now, but desire to future-proof is strong when coughing up $700 (for an admittedly otherwise superior) laptop...

I have 13" XPS and have configured it with dual boot. I run Ubuntu 99% of the time only going into Windows if I need to test something or a run a Windows app that Linux Wine doesn't like. 8Gbps is more then enough for Linux.

That's an entirely different model with a much better screen. You can tell by 13.4 vs. 13.3.
