Thanks all for the advice around getting companion pass! Opted for the $149 card since it essentially pays for itself every year ($75 southwest credit and 7500 points annually).
Here's my plan for anyone who might benefit from it:
- Before 2022, spend UNDER $2000 (I'm aiming for $1800 to have a buffer) so that the 50,000 point bonus does not hit in this calendar year.
- In Jan (and before the 3 months from start of account) spend the remaining amount to get to $2000 for the first 50,000 bonus. (Total 50,000 points for 2022 towards 125,000 companion pass)
- SPEND LIKE CRAZY, to get the remaining of the 12k as quickly as possible. Second 50,000 point bonus hits after this. (Total 100,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)
- In the course of this, in 2022, should accrue at least 10k points from spending point accrual (110,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)
- for the remaining $15k points needed, either refer someone to the card for 20,000 points, or just migrate more of my spending to this card.
The goal is to get to 125,000 points accrued in 2022, as soon as possible in the calendar year to secure companion pass for the remaining months of 2022 and through all of 2023.
Thanks all, and good luck!
Also offering free canceled flights!
For spending using credit card, you can have minimum federal taxes deducted at your income source/salary etc and pay estimated taxes every quarter using credit card. 1.96% credit card fee is well offset by credit card point value/benefits. I have been doing that since I started cc churning. Just an idea for churners!

You BOTH can have companion pass and you'd each get a free companion (the companion can be ANYBODY you choose, but you only can change the name 3x in a year). So if you are a family of 4, you'd only have to buy 2 tickets. What most of us do is we rotate the companion pass with the bonus offer since you can apply every 2 years (so doing it now for 2022-2023, then the companion in 2023 for 2024-2025, etc).
Right you are: both parents can get a pass, buy two, get two free.
I was trying to see if we could buy one, get the companion (and their companion) to fly free....in other words, buy one, get TWO free. Spoiled by firework stands I guess 😋
Ok. So to get the companion pass for 2022, I would need to spend $25,000 on the credit card. That seems a bit steep. Is my math correct?
All these points need to be posted in 2022 to count towards the 2022 companion pass so all the spending would have to occur after my last statement closes in December. To get the 100,000 bonus points in the credit card offer, I would need to spend $14,000 on the credit card ($2,000+$12,000) and then another $11,000 to get the remaining points to make it to 125,000 points (assuming the $14,000 spent to earn the 100,000 bonus also netted 14,000 points).
So if my math is correct, I would need to spend $25,000 on the credit card to earn the companion pass. I think that sounds a bit rough IMO. Who can spend that much in a few months?
If you are a Costco member, buy Costco gift card. Use gift card when shopping later in Costco.
Has anyone confirmed being able to sign up for the business and regular credit card bonuses?
Not sure why this question has been consistently ignored in this thread, as it has been ask at least three times. I plan on applying for both personal and business card at the same time. I have done this the past five years without issue

I know I normally do it but wasn't sure if any rules had changed yet- thanks for answering!

If you look at fine print in Business Card offer, it is very specific that you are not eligible only if you currently have a business card or got bonus points from business card in the last 24 months. Based on that language (which you can read for yourself on the application page) it's still fine.

The business card language is not what I'm worried about. Thanks!
Thank you all for your input. I am newly retired, due to Covid, and hope to do more travelling with the wife. The companion pass sounds great. I just hope I don't screw up the dates etc of doing everything. I already may have made a mistake as I applied for the card yesterday (instead of waiting a bit). Thanks again everyone for sharing their knowledge.

I applied for a SW business card at the beginning of this year. Chase required the following information before issuing the card. Several years ago I applied for a Chase United business card without any proof of the business.
Please upload clear, easy-to-read copies of documents for the following:
Proof of legal name for business
Proof of physical address for business (e.g. utility bill)
Proof of federal tax id for business
Proof of current business billing address (e.g. utility bill)

It is ok if you did apply/receive your card now. Activate the card and just spend a few dollars now. Start using it like crazy after your December Statment only.
You're not serious are you? The cancellation was due to tons of their employees, including lots of pilots, refusing their vaccine mandate (and rightfully so!). The storm part was just a load of BS....you have to read the articles because they seem to shy away from focus on the vaccine mandate being the issue.

Assuming you applied as a sole proprietor using your own name as the full business name, that sort of document request is very unusual for a Chase biz card. Not unheard of, but not something that should be expected.
Companion pass is dope if you can get this early on in the first year. They normally give you companion pass the rest of the year you earn it, plus an additional year. So if you can hit Jan/Feb you essentially get companion pass for 2 years. I earned one with the personal/business cards a while back and my wife and I enjoyed it tremendously!
Spot on. I did this with the wifey and our kids flew for free. Best was when SW had that Hawaii deal earlier this year. Sooooo cheap for RT family if 4.

Your article says no protests. SW union leaders have said, repeatedly, there is no such protest, and callouts are in line with normal numbers.
Stop spreading misinformation just because you want to shove everything into a box that fits your own myopic worldview.
