Thanks all for the advice around getting companion pass! Opted for the $149 card since it essentially pays for itself every year ($75 southwest credit and 7500 points annually).
Here's my plan for anyone who might benefit from it:
- Before 2022, spend UNDER $2000 (I'm aiming for $1800 to have a buffer) so that the 50,000 point bonus does not hit in this calendar year.
- In Jan (and before the 3 months from start of account) spend the remaining amount to get to $2000 for the first 50,000 bonus. (Total 50,000 points for 2022 towards 125,000 companion pass)
- SPEND LIKE CRAZY, to get the remaining of the 12k as quickly as possible. Second 50,000 point bonus hits after this. (Total 100,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)
- In the course of this, in 2022, should accrue at least 10k points from spending point accrual (110,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)
- for the remaining $15k points needed, either refer someone to the card for 20,000 points, or just migrate more of my spending to this card.
The goal is to get to 125,000 points accrued in 2022, as soon as possible in the calendar year to secure companion pass for the remaining months of 2022 and through all of 2023.
Thanks all, and good luck!
Also offering free canceled flights!
For spending using credit card, you can have minimum federal taxes deducted at your income source/salary etc and pay estimated taxes every quarter using credit card. 1.96% credit card fee is well offset by credit card point value/benefits. I have been doing that since I started cc churning. Just an idea for churners!

You'll get the companion pass for 2022 and 2023 if you time it correctly. and you have the entire next year to spend $25k; there are easy ways to get these points without spending as well; it might not be appropriate to say it here
Please message me, I'm curious as to how to do this. thank you
Good deal, you can get the companion pass pretty easily now with this card. Annual fee isn't that much either and there are ways to get the annual fee covered
Can you please pm me as well in regards to the manufactured spending and annual fee being waived. Thanks!
Getting Companion pass for 2022-23 needs posting 125000 rapid rewards after 1/1/2022. For that:
Best path: Get SW performance Bus card for 80K points and any personal SW card for minimum 50K.
Finish spending bonus threashhold limits (5000 and 2000) only after the December statements so that the bonus points post only in/after January statements. You can spend upto 4800 and 1800 before December statements if you choose because just the bonus points (130K) are enough for the pass. Make sure not to hit the threshholds before December statements.
2nd path: Get one of the personal cards for 100000K bonus. In that case you should spend atleast 12000 after December statement to get the 100K bonus and 12K spend points, total 112K points in 2022.
For the remaining 13K you need
Either spend another 13K on the card or earn some points by referring someone or any combination (Starting January referring bonus may or may not be current 20K).
This will be my 4th consecutive Companion pass and will be getting in 1st 10 days of January.
Hope the above summerized info helps someone.
PS: After you are approved for the card(s) you can call chase for expedited delivery and change due date to 1st of the month to give you more time to spend in December.
Should I apply for the business or personal card first? And how much time in between? Thanks
i applied for the business on Monday and received the 'you will hear back about our decision'. how long should i wait to contact them about the status?
Thanks. Any particular reason to do the business card first?
Yes, as business cards do not count towards 5/24 counter. So if you are 4/24 and apply first personal it will be 5/24 and won't be eligible for business. If you are 3/24 or less then doesn't matter. Going to pm you a referral link if you could use it, appreciate.

I'm 4/24, with my last card being the Chase Marriott Bonvoy a month ago. Is there any way I can get two of these Southwest cards to get the companion pass without setting off red flags with Chase, and somehow double dipping with two applications really close to each other?
A thought I had recently was even though you get 20000 points for a referral bonus for someone right now, that amount won't apply towards the needed extra points after the 12k spend since it's not this calendar year. May have to wait until 2022 to refer even though this deal will be expired for them.

Apply for the business first. Then apply for the personal.
If you get approved for the business then you apply for the personal, the business won't even show up.
I got approved for the business (yay!), called them and confirmed. Can i apply for the personal anytime now? or should i wait any specific amount of time?
I would love to hear how to get the annual fee covered also. and how to easily spend the $5-12k needed for each card. if anyone has that info, please PM me!!!
