Thanks all for the advice around getting companion pass! Opted for the $149 card since it essentially pays for itself every year ($75 southwest credit and 7500 points annually).

Here's my plan for anyone who might benefit from it:

- Before 2022, spend UNDER $2000 (I'm aiming for $1800 to have a buffer) so that the 50,000 point bonus does not hit in this calendar year.

- In Jan (and before the 3 months from start of account) spend the remaining amount to get to $2000 for the first 50,000 bonus. (Total 50,000 points for 2022 towards 125,000 companion pass)

- SPEND LIKE CRAZY, to get the remaining of the 12k as quickly as possible. Second 50,000 point bonus hits after this. (Total 100,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)

- In the course of this, in 2022, should accrue at least 10k points from spending point accrual (110,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)

- for the remaining $15k points needed, either refer someone to the card for 20,000 points, or just migrate more of my spending to this card.

The goal is to get to 125,000 points accrued in 2022, as soon as possible in the calendar year to secure companion pass for the remaining months of 2022 and through all of 2023.

Thanks all, and good luck!
Also offering free canceled flights!
For spending using credit card, you can have minimum federal taxes deducted at your income source/salary etc and pay estimated taxes every quarter using credit card. 1.96% credit card fee is well offset by credit card point value/benefits. I have been doing that since I started cc churning. Just an idea for churners!

You need 125,000 points now to get a companion pass. So you'll need to spend $14,000 to get 100,000 points and then an additional $11,000, assuming you earn one point per dollar spent.

Doesn't really seem worth it to me, and this is coming from someone who consistently had a CP every year until last year, especially with the fact that we're still in a pandemic.

get the 80k southwest biz card too

I've never had a southwest card but I do have about 5500 points in my rapid rewards account from previous travels. Are there any issues with combining the points and this offer?

Need to apply for business performance for 80k points and any personal for atlest 50k points in that order. You should read atleast last 4-5 pages of comments for lot of tips etc. Good luck

So you need to spend $12,000 to get 100,000 points and then $5,000 to get the 80,000 points to have enough for the companion pass. Still a lot to spend for the CP.

I used to do this every year when I could get the personal and business cards with $3k spend for the bonus. Now we are looking at spending 3x that amount to get it. Unless you are going to be doing a lot of flying on SWA with your companion in the next 12-24 months I don't see a ton of value after all that spending you're doing. Unless you can do a ton of MS but a lot of those ways to do it easily have evaporated in the last several years.

Statement closing date generally 3 days after. You can call them to change your payment day to 1st of every month to give you more suitable closing date of 4th or 5th

Any advice on how to do this? I don't want to return any of the big purchases I made with it (Two consoles and two guns). Thanks!

There is still the two card path. Read last 4-5 pages of comments. Adding to that you could try buying something on a different visa and have the merchant return on the sw card before December statement to bring the balance on the card below the threshold of 2000. Haven't tried but might work !

Just return something that puts you below the required amount for the points. If the statement closes, it's this yr, not next

Applied for the business card... waiting on word of approval or not.

Applied for the personal card 3 days later and approved instantly but with only $2,000 credit limit.

I lowered all of my other chase credit cards (approx $15k) before applying to either. I also am in good standing with a credit score of over 800.

Chase rep submitted a request to higher my limit (another hard pull) but was automatically denied and stated I should reach out to a credit bureau.

Any help?

Seems like your credit line is stretched. Your business card may be on hold/review because of that. You should call business card reconsideration and ask for update and if issue due to credit limit offer to transfer some credit from another chase card to this. After business card issue resolved, can call for personal card and offer to move some of the credit from other card to this.

Sorry you're clearly on to something, but admittedly don't understand. Can you clarify how to do this? Do you mean just paying my tax bill with a credit card or something else?
