Thanks all for the advice around getting companion pass! Opted for the $149 card since it essentially pays for itself every year ($75 southwest credit and 7500 points annually).

Here's my plan for anyone who might benefit from it:

- Before 2022, spend UNDER $2000 (I'm aiming for $1800 to have a buffer) so that the 50,000 point bonus does not hit in this calendar year.

- In Jan (and before the 3 months from start of account) spend the remaining amount to get to $2000 for the first 50,000 bonus. (Total 50,000 points for 2022 towards 125,000 companion pass)

- SPEND LIKE CRAZY, to get the remaining of the 12k as quickly as possible. Second 50,000 point bonus hits after this. (Total 100,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)

- In the course of this, in 2022, should accrue at least 10k points from spending point accrual (110,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)

- for the remaining $15k points needed, either refer someone to the card for 20,000 points, or just migrate more of my spending to this card.

The goal is to get to 125,000 points accrued in 2022, as soon as possible in the calendar year to secure companion pass for the remaining months of 2022 and through all of 2023.

Thanks all, and good luck!
Also offering free canceled flights!
For spending using credit card, you can have minimum federal taxes deducted at your income source/salary etc and pay estimated taxes every quarter using credit card. 1.96% credit card fee is well offset by credit card point value/benefits. I have been doing that since I started cc churning. Just an idea for churners!

I would play it safe and only go over the $2000 initial spend in January. I am in similar situation and that is my plan.

We use Southwest alot and want to have the companion pass as long as possible. I can pay all of my property taxes and that alone will get to me 15K spend. I can also pay my parents property taxes to get above the 25K total spend needed to get the companion pass. I just applied and was approved for the card a few moments ago today (11/24). The card already appears in my chase online account and shows that it has a payment due date of 1/17/2022. Once I get the card in hand can I simply charge it up right away to get the 125K points that are necessary for the companion pass or do I need to wait until January to make any purchases? I just want to make sure because I want to maximize the companion pass and ideally have the pass for nearly all of 2022 and 2023. Thanks!
Congratulations. For the companion pass for 22-23 you need to earn/post 125000 points in 22. The points post on your statement date. So you want to make sure you do the needed spending after your December statement only so the points post with your January statement. DO NOT reach the 2000 spending level before December statement otherwise the first 50000 pts will pot in December and won't be any good for your desired companion pass.
If you like you can call customer service to see if they can move your December payment date to the beginning of the month thus giving you more/earlier time to spend. Good luck and follow guidelines

I just logged into my account and sent a message asking them to move my statement date up to mid-Dec. They got back to me right away and changed it. No issues doing so and didn't have to talk to anyone. Also, I never received an approved confirmation on my SW business card... they said it had to go to review. It had been about 10 days and we were going to call this evening but the card just showed up in the mail.

Same guidelines apply to the business card. Hope it is performance business for 80000 pts

Yup... I just asked them to sync it with my Chase Sapphire Preferred date. Yes, it's the 80K deal.

A question for folks who are trying to delay using their cards till January to get the CP for 2022-23:

If the "statement close date" is 3 days after "payment due date" shouldn't we be asking Chase to change the payment due date to the 29th of each month? That way the January statement will start on the 1st of January and we can start raking up expenses starting 1/1/22?

Not sure why people are asking Chase to change payment due date to 1st January (which will make the January statement start on 1/4) and thereby waste another 3-4 days when you can spend?

the terms say you cannot own a personal card and qualify for the bonus. However, I have a secondary Priority Card through my spouse who is the primary account holder.

Would I be able to qualify for the bonus if i apply for a new card? If not, wonder if my changes increased if I do a plus or premiere card instead?

As an FYI, the 29th-31st don't exist when it comes to statement and due dates with Chase. In order to maintain consistency, they only allow dates to be set which would work for the shortest month of the year - a non leap year February.

You need to cancel your secondary card, wait couple of days and then apply for any of the personal (other than priority may be better)

If I just got my card but haven't activated/used it yet...
- Will my statement/window not open until my first usage?
- Is it safe to assume any purchases I make starting, say, tomorrow 11/29, the points would hit in January? Or should I hold off until 12/1 just in case?

This is probably a dumb question and I should just wait but we have a number of decent-sized purchases that I've been pushing off but we need to pull the trigger ASAP. The whole 29th-31st thing above caught my attention and I just wasn't sure which way they default for statement close date (28th or 1st) if you begin using the card on one of these days. Curious if anyone knows...

Thanks!

The statement date has nothing to do with when you start using the card. You must not hit the bonus threshold (2000) till after the Dec statement. You need to find out your Dec statement date. You can also call customer service if they can still move your Dec due date and thus statement date to earliest in Dec. Again, must not hit 2000 before Dec statement date.

Understood on that front. When I log into my Chase account online (I have other Chase cards) this card profile currently says "Your next statement period ends on Not available." which is why I was thinking my first purchase would trigger the statement window to start.

I'll call tomorrow and see if they can push my statement end to beginning January at this point since I plan on spending a ton more than $2000 this month...

1. When is the referral link available after approval? Is it available as soon as the card shows up in my account? Or do I wait for a few days?

2. If I refer a friend around Dec 5 and they apply soon after (by Dec 7), will the 20k bonus points count towards 2021 or 2022? Ideally I would want to time it so that the friend can get this offer and I can get the 20k points count towards my 125k meter for 2022.

bit confused here. approved personal card today. Realized statement date or payment due date is a big deal. Should i request them to skip December statement altogether? OR should i just ask them to change payment due date to X of month? OR change statement generation date to Y of each month? I am also considering another card for my spouse and use mine as referee with bonus to appear in 2022 statement. Too many variables - appreciate if an expert can help please.
