Thanks all for the advice around getting companion pass! Opted for the $149 card since it essentially pays for itself every year ($75 southwest credit and 7500 points annually).
Here's my plan for anyone who might benefit from it:
- Before 2022, spend UNDER $2000 (I'm aiming for $1800 to have a buffer) so that the 50,000 point bonus does not hit in this calendar year.
- In Jan (and before the 3 months from start of account) spend the remaining amount to get to $2000 for the first 50,000 bonus. (Total 50,000 points for 2022 towards 125,000 companion pass)
- SPEND LIKE CRAZY, to get the remaining of the 12k as quickly as possible. Second 50,000 point bonus hits after this. (Total 100,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)
- In the course of this, in 2022, should accrue at least 10k points from spending point accrual (110,000 points towards 125,000 companion pass)
- for the remaining $15k points needed, either refer someone to the card for 20,000 points, or just migrate more of my spending to this card.
The goal is to get to 125,000 points accrued in 2022, as soon as possible in the calendar year to secure companion pass for the remaining months of 2022 and through all of 2023.
Thanks all, and good luck!
Also offering free canceled flights!
For spending using credit card, you can have minimum federal taxes deducted at your income source/salary etc and pay estimated taxes every quarter using credit card. 1.96% credit card fee is well offset by credit card point value/benefits. I have been doing that since I started cc churning. Just an idea for churners!

So I applied Dec 1, and the card arrived today Dec 6. Chase.com shows Next closing date "Not available" but payment due date Jan 17.
I actually have a large (10+K) purchase I need to make today.
If the closing date is in Jan, should I make the large purchase today? I want to maximize how long I get the companion pass for.
If your due date is Jan 17th, that means your statement is going to generate on December 20th. IF you make a large purchase today, it is a near-certainty that the points will post this month, and not count towards a 2022-23 companion pass. If you had an existing Rapid Rewards account at the start of the year and got the 25k head start toward Companion Pass, the 100k bonus + spend points will at least get you the 2021-22 pass.

Applied today but didn't get instant approval. Is the 12/7 deadline an apply by date, or do I have to be approved and opened by then?
Apply by date.

The statement closing date is the only important date as the points post on that date. Payment due date has no significance on points posting.
Payment due date doesn't have significance on its own, but is very significant in that it is linked to the statement generation date - for Chase personal cards: Due date + 3 days = the statement date, with the 29th-31st of any month not counting.
Refer a friend is now only giving the friend 40,000 anyone know why? Or a way around it for them to get the 100,000 and me to get the 20000 referral points?
The 100k (50k + 50k) offer for referrals died on 12/1.
I've been having a lot of problems trying to contact Chase today. They haven't been able to approve my card for some reason, seems like the Fraud team needs to validate that I was the one that put in the application (for some reason).
If I applied before the offer expiration date (12/7) and get approved after this date, would I still be entitled to the 100k offer?

seems as though i am late for the suggested apply for biz card first since this 100K offer expires today. any problems with doing it in reverse (apply for premier, then apply for business card later on). currently 2/24 as far as new cards are concerned. also will the business card be counted as a new card? for 5/24 purposes?
combo will "only" require 15K total spend vs 25K total spend correct?
also today is last day to apply for 100k premier correct?

If you are 3/24 or less, order doesn't matter. Can apply for both today. If you apply performance business, need to spend only 7000 total to qualify for companion pass. 7th is the last day. Business doesn't count towards 5/24. Hope helps. Good luck. If works out it will be good timing as both statements will begin in January

Can you elaborate on how it is only 7K spend with performance business card for companion pass?

I suggest you guys reading last 8-10 pages of comments. Lot of good information. Anyways, spend 5k on performance business to get 80k bonus, spend 2k on personal to get 50k bonus. Total points earned 80+50+5+2=137k. Need only 125k for the pass

I think some people have mentioned to not apply both cards on the same day. Wait for approval for business plus 1 day before applying for personal. Not sure of the reason and don't have experience.

Yes, I too have heard that but you don't have much time left in the offer. Two years ago I applied within an hour, personal approved right away, business under review and was approved 3 days later

That's the regular offer, not elevated. Does not expire on Dec 07.
