Set up PayPal so you can pay with QR codes. Link your Chase freedom flex as the payment method.

CVS is one of the few places that take PayPal QR codes as payment. It's been recommended to use self checkout, if possible. Once you add the gift card, DO NOT click any payment method on the self checkout terminal. Instead, scan your PayPal QR code like you are buying something. Then it will allow you to checkout and pay with PayPal.

If it does indeed stack with the 2% back at drug stores as the other thread suggests, that's 11% back on up to $1500.
I don't think you read the whole post...
It is only for Freedom Flex.

What is the top spend category offer

This offer is separate from your quarterly bonus category offer, but automatically added to your account when you activate your Q4 bonus categories. You'll earn 5% cash back on up to $1500 in total spend in the eligible rewards category where you spend the most from October 1 – December 31, 2021. That's 4% additional cash back on top of the 1% cash back per $1 USD spent that you earn on all purchases.

If I use Paypal, a Q4 quarterly bonus category, as a payment method for purchases in my top category, can I earn both offers?

Yes, however please note since both your top spend category and quarterly bonus category offers are earned as 4% bonus cash back on top of the 1% cash back you earn on every purchase, and the 1% can only be earned once per purchase, the most you will earn per $1 spent is 9% cash back:
  • 1% base earn on every purchase
  • 4% bonus earn on quarterly bonus categories
  • + 4% bonus earn on top spend category
  • 9% total cash back

Dining and Drugstores will earn 7% total in the top spend category

https://creditcards.chase.com/fre...ds/flexfaq

5% on $1500 Quarterly bonus calendar
5% on $1500 Top Spend Category

If the total purchases in the 4th quarter is $1500 or less, Chase will automatically combine both promotions on the highest spent category in the top category that was paid with Paypal for a total bonus of 9%

If this stacks with the quarterly category of Paypal, fyi you can use it in Apple checkout meaning a pretty big discount on that new macbook pro.

Unless Macbook Pro is sold by a store in one of these caregories, you get 5% not 9%.

I tried buying a $500 serve visa card at CVS and failed. First I went to the self-check out and the transaction stalled because it was over $250. A cashier then rings me up on a cash register and asks for my ID and swipes it into the system. Then when it comes time to pay he scans my PayPal QR code and tells me that it's not going through. So I aborted that transaction and tried with Vanilla Visa GC at a the self-check-out but that too failed due to being over $250. What did I or the cashier do wrong and is it bad sign that they swiped my ID for such low transaction amount?
On 1st page samwathegreat saying that "CVS is one of the few places that take PayPal QR codes as payment. It's been recommended to use self checkout, if possible. yes, it will stack.
But it will only stack for the highest category of spend. PayPal + 5%, additional 4% for your top spend category among the following (not for each or combined, but highest one out of the bunch):

Travel (including Transit)
Dining
Home Improvement Stores
Grocery Stores (not including Target and Walmart purchases)
Drugstores
Gas Stations
Select Live Entertainment
Select Streaming Services
Fitness Clubs

I think I get this deal, but one thing I am not 100% sure about, does the top spending category apply ONLY to the freedom flex card, or is it accross ALL of your spending for every chase card on your account? I have 5 chase cards, so my top spending category is very different depending on which one is the case.
Freedom Flex, only.

My bad, for some reason I thought I saw PayPal in that list again. Thanks for the polite correction.

Also could not use self checkout at cvs. Asked cashier if she had ever used the paypal QR code and she said a paypal button had recently shown up on the register. So she scanned the gift card, pushed the paypal button, scaned my QR code and it worked!

Uhh... Go to any of those categories to buy gift cards to the store of your choice. 9%.
