Touch Bar model.
New one will get MagSafe,
return of ports,
updated screen
Normal function keys instead of Touch Bar
Better speakers
1080p webcam
Fast charging (with appropriate charger)
I'm sure there's more, just a few things listing on top of my head.
This needs significantly more of a discount at this stage

Definitely consider the new ones. For $500 more you'll get a ton of stuff:
- 2 extra performance cores (+60% multicore)
- 3x memory bandwidth 200GB/s
- almost double the GPUs (comparable to nvidia 3050, but much less power hungry)
- dedicated video encode/decode hardware (priceless if you do video editing)
- 120hz promotion screen
- mini-LED screen with HDR (IMO, this alone is worth $500 more)
- bigger screen
- bigger battery
- much better web cam
- much much better speakers and atmos capable
- spatial head tracking if you use apple's headphones
- more ports
It's not just not even in the same league. I would postpone the purchase and save enough to buy this (perhaps you can get by with someone else's laptop, or just use whatever you have now).
Plus deals on the new ones will come. Most likely in January, if they get a lot of returns, refurb prices will be 10%-15% discounted.
my MicroCenter had the Macbook Air, M1, 16GB Ram, 256GB forn$999 for the longest time. Not worth an extra $500 for an additional 256GB and the ever-so slightly more performance you get with the Pro if your MicroCenter has the config I outlined in stock.

Not sure about the M1 Airs, but the Intel ones are garbage, even with i7 intel chips. MBPro is the way to go.
