Yep, touchscreen along with a stylus is a must. Unforunately, chromebook doesn't seem to run too friendly with a lot of apps that I will be using.

Awesome, now debating if I should wait till black friday or pull the trigger. Most likely buy now and think later. laugh out loud
Is the touch because you want to use a stylus?

External Wacom-type things work very well.

If not, I suggest looking for a "dell inspiron chromebook 14 7486" - Why?? It has WACOM EMR Battery-less Stylus built-in. On ebay, people are giving them away imo. It has one of the best screens 100%+ sRGB, and VERY color accurate I've seen on any reasonably priced device. I have 5 of these to do what I need to do in the remote world. They are all 8th gen i3 processors. I bought them all on ebay for about $200 each for an all-aluminum build.

Does anyone else have screen edge bleeding in several areas at the top? Of course, it's only visible while the screen is black, but it's still highly annoying. Any solutions, workarounds, or rebates from support?

No. I bought t480 couple of years back via rac which was giving 17% cb. This is after final payment which applying any coupon. cb is not applicacle on tax
Example, if price of laptop is 1200, after applying a coupon, assuming it becomes 1000 and taxes are say 70 usd, your total cost is 1070
Cb will be 150 if 15%
Effective price of laptop will be 1070 -150 i.e 920

FWIW, rec'd the laptop today. My concerns regarding the display were justified. There must be different grades of IPS panels now because this one is definitely lower quality that the one on the Asus that it is replacing. Even typing this msg with it resting on my lap, you can detect light dimming / falloff on the edges, when moving your head slightly side-to-side. It reminds me of what I would consider to be a good TN screen rather than IPS.

Also, the colors are not as vibrant as the old laptop. It's not bad but just doesn't have the "pop" or color saturation you would expect of a decent IPS. It is plenty bright at 300 nits but just means that the somewhat washed colors are brighter.

One item that did surprise me was to learn that the two USB-C ports are not Thunderbolt-4. There was an insert between the keyboard and screen during shipping that contained comments appropriately placed around the edges, identifying the different ports/connections. It stated that the USB-C ports only supported up to 10Gbs for AMD equipped Thinkbooks. However, if it were an Intel CPU, the ports were now Thunderbolt-4 compliant, supporting up to 40Gbs transfer rates.

Setting aside the display, the machine seems well put together and has most of the features expected at this price point. Saying that, trying to decide whether to keep the Thinkbook. Is it worth the $640 (the 8GB / non-touch model) I paid? Qualified "yes". Would I be willing to spend another $100 and get a better display...without hesitation The screen isn't terrible, but is a disappointment, definitely the weakest link in the Thinkbook.

You can click the chat function on their site at the bottom. However I would tell you it was a waste of time for me. After putting in all my info to get a Rep they then asked for all of it again and then checked my status which was exactly what I could see. The apologized and said it was there most popular model and being build overseas. They then offered to transfer me to a sales associate that could offer comparable options that ship sooner. I accepted that offer and that took a while then I had to provide all info again. They then took some time and provided me with a couple comparable options. The frustrating issue was comparable means to the end price you paid not to the computer specs you ordered. So they were showing me laptops that had a retail price around 750 with vastly lower specs. I brought up that the policy is not good as it does not even factor in current discount codes that are still available. They apologized and said that was all they could do. They suggested I cancel if I couldn't wait or as I mentioned keep the order, hope it ships earlier, and if a better deal comes around get it and cancel this order. I received an email a week later apologizing for the wait time but assuring they will update the status. My status for shipping has never changed even though I have seen it lower to 1+ to 2+ months on the project page. I am not impressed with their customer service or system to update orders. However, the deal is great so it is a difficult decision.
Did you receive the laptop?

I agree with your post. Does your screen issue involve significant edge bleeding, as shown in my photo. It was really annoying at first, but the four edge bleeds at the top now kind of look like a theater lights effect, if you catch my drift. Support wants me to ship it or go to a store, and I don't want to do that with an otherwise working laptop, especially if all of them have this issue. Any thoughts or advice?Click image for larger version

Mine does not display the edge bleeding shown in the photo you posted. If there is any, it is insignificant and no concern.

After several days of use, I am no closer to embracing this laptop, solely because of the display. I could tolerate the limited color palette but find the lack of viewing angles to being thoroughly annoying. As I write this note with the ThinkBook resting in my lap, as you would normally use, I can see a light falloff beginning around 1.5-2" from each side The intensity will brighten or dim if I move my head or the laptop slightly.

Out of curiosity, I powered up a 12-year old Gateway laptop with a 15" TN display (1366x768). Obviously the ThinkBook has superior resolution, but the viewing angles are virtually identical, if not slightly better on the Gateway.

Bottom line, either there is a new standard for qualifies as IPS or this laptop has the wrong panel. I plan on asking for an exchange or refund.

It's fine. Bending the screen causes distortion, which indicates to me that this is just how it was built, not that the edge bleeding is confined or particular to those four spots, which I consider a good sign. If it was just one large spot, I would replace, but paradoxically the four small spots are not really a bother after three weeks of usage. I'm not going to deal with a return or repair. Everything else works and I was replacing a barely usable 12in educational "Thinkpad" 11e with Celeron.
