I've setup multiple fire tablets with google play this year. A quick google will show you step by step instructions. Maybe it was harder in the past but now it's super easy. Download and install 4 files in a specific order and takes less than 15 minutes.

Thanks op. Been using a Fire 7 tablet we got a couple years ago during prime day for $20 for road trips/tantrums in the car (watch dl'd kids prime videos) for our 3 yo. this should complement that well

I turned on my hd 10 2021 version and was able to install Family Link and the program walked me through the process to set up everything.
I am at stage where I was creating childs email and password, and now asking to verify me with phone number. Seems like it is working. I don't want to go further, since I have no child to do this for.

Where did you run into problems?

Awesome, found someone who is trying the same thing with Family Link. I was stuck at activating, it kept saying activating, and circling back to password and sometimes saying google services not running. Do you recommend I just wipe the tablet and start from scratch?

Also does family link actually work with Youtube with limiting/restricted mode/etc?

I think I would recommend setting it up from your android phone , that is used to verify you. Tablet has no sim card in it. First things first, create child's account on smartphone, then turn on tablet that has the child app on it, and connect to it or link it. Youtube has videos on setting it up.
I know nothing about the program, so getting help from someone already useing Family Link would be better resource person. Good luck.

I have no familiarity with that particular program, but you may also want to try deleting that particular app and reinstalling. I have occasionally had a program get stuck like that due to some weird installation glitch and a fresh install gets things back on track.

Thanks, this is a family link by Google so it relies very heavily on google services, like being able to track location by google maps and be able to limit which apps can run during school hours, or add limits to youtube/gaming/etc and most importantly asking for permission before they can install any apps, since fire OS has amazon app store that kind of conflicts with Family Link.

Sounds like it can be a bit of a pain, but possible. That thread contains a link to another more in-depth discussion of the process. However, someone also mentioned that method may not work on some newer chips.

All the videos and discussions I've seen about it imply that debloating it with Fire toolbox gets as close to a clean install as you can, so please post a link if there's a complete wipe option out there that works for it.
