Perfectly loud keyboard if your boss needs to be convinced that you should still be allowed to work from home ;-)

Would help to label the thread as TKL for tenkeyless or to explicitly call this out as an 87 key keyboard.

Good luck!

Also wanted to add that these are Outemu switches, so they're not a completely unknown vintage of mechanical switch.

Good luck!

New to this stuff. Is it cherry key?
Like others stated, this uses the Outemu switches, which are a cheaper Chinese brand. They're okay for budget stuff and their "blue" switches, like the ones on this keyboard, give a very loud click. Personally I couldn't live with it and went with their brown switches for a keyboard I used for a few months.

Also, unless you have money to waste, don't go heading into the rabbit hole of custom mechanical keyboards. These days there are tons of better switch brands than Cherry and they can get pretty pricey.

This is a well-made keyboard with a metal board and robust plastic. It uses Otemu switches, which are quite good, and better than 90% of Cherry MX clones.

Unless you own this keyboard or have used it, do not give out incorrect advice.
This is a very good keyboard for the price, but the commenter is specifically responding to the question of whether it's uses Cherry switches. And they're right, this board doesn't use cherry switches, but Outemu, which are cheaper than Cherry. The information they gave is correct

No keyboard in this price range will have Cherry switches, obviously. However, they are likely thinking of Cherry TYPE switches in the abstract sense, and not the specific sense because it's a marketing term used by kb makers - "Cherry type" or "Cherry clone."

But bashing Otemu switches with no experience or data about them is not cool. As far as Cherry clones go, Otemu is quite good, and they're better than almost any Cherry clones.

The point is that this specific Red Dragon, which I also own, has so many good reviews because it's extremely well made and works well for the cost.

Is it as good as a $100 keyboard? Of course not, but a $100 keyboard is not 5+ times better than this one for $18.

This one has a metal plate, so its enclosing plastic box (which acts like a drum) is not needed. Taking off the box reduces the noise significantly, just put Gorilla/duct tape at the bottom to avoid exposing the circuit, and add two foam feet. And if you don't mind about not hitting all the way, inserting rubber O-rings will also reduces bottom-out noise.

I still have the keyboard, but replaced all the keycaps with a PBT set, the regular/original ABS keycaps can get oily quickly.

well i swapped the switches with outemu reds and keycaps, this is a good keyboard for the budget if you swap to reds if you don't like loud sound with blues.
i would recommend to buy this if anyone interested in trying out entry level mechanical keyboard.

I bought this before and had to return it. I can't stand the blue switches. I prefer Redragons red switches they are a lot quieter.

Why are you so hung up on bashing? No one here has been bashing anything, and you're the only one that keeps bringing it up.

How about this, we will leave it at this and move on:
You're right, this comes with decent OUTEMU switches. They're louder than some people like, but if you're on a budget this is a decent starter keyboard.

I have a redragon keyboard too, and use a number of Outemu switches. I haven't used their blue, but I like their brown switches better than the Cherry equivalent. Their silent gray switches in particular are a bargain with no real competition.

No one is saying Outemu switches, or Redragon keyboards are bad. Just the opposite. You seem to be fighting imagined arguments that no one is making.

Redragon keyboards are built well. Step up over other cheap keyboard brands that are posted here often

Sounds fair. I don't have a bias towards Red Dragon, but it would not be easy to find a better genuine mechanical keyboard for less than $18 from a reputable brand.

IMHO, I would recommend the red linear switches for the ~$27, unless the volume is not an issue. I now use my K552 with the blues on my racing simulator because they were too loud to use as my primary keyboard.

But I like that comment about the blue's being used to convince someone's boss to let them work from home.

I got a Royal Kludge with brown switches, which is nice, but a lot more than $27. The Royal Kludge is also fully hot-swappable with any Cherry-type switch. I haven't had time to upgrade it yet. And it has Bluetooth.

This one looks like a good compromise: https://www.amazon.com/Redragon-K...B093BBS59C

Otherwise, Amazon has the tenkeyless one with free shipping too: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B089P3H8RX

Besides the numeric pad, what is the difference between the two keyboards? I prefer one with a numeric pad for work.
