This deal is great timing for me. I've been looking to increase my NAS capacity for a while.

Same here. I'm on my first ever NAS (Synology DS1621+). Is it fairly easy to add an extra HDD?
Is it as easy as just popping in the drive?

Thanks. My red is 3tb from like 8 years ago. Paid 200. This should work as a backup.

I'm not familiar with the RED Nas drives. Can I just use this as a regular hard drive?

If you are just using it for storage it would be fine but it's not going to be fast and you won't really get much benefit of the NAS firmware. If you have a microcenter they have WD blues for $99...actually thats a slick deal in itself if you can get it.

yes, NAS drives are rated for 24/7 use and in small cabinets.
