No. This battery provides more current for brushless applications but same amount of capacity. Watch a YouTube video to see performance comparisons. The 4x number is comparing vs a battery roughly 4x smaller.

The only thing that makes sense is that "standard lithium" means their small regular battery. 4AH is the capacity that is the total energy which is directly proportional to run time.

I'm curious which impact wrench do you have?

I have a Ryobi impact driver (not wrench), PSBID01, with the non HP 1.5 Ah batteries and it manages to remove my 85 ft/lb lug nuts off without any issue.
The battery capacity shouldn't really matter, no? I don't have as beefy of an impact driver but I do have a 1/2" impact wrench, and it doesn't care whether I use a 1.5 ah or 4 ah battery.

I think their 4x claim is still false. Even with a 2600 cell you'll only get 5 in the casing. Average capacity range is about 5500mah. The 18650 they have in the old casing has 10 cells at 2200mah. So by watts/h calculation at best you get is still less than 2x
So you're saying the old 4 ah batteries were actually 2.2 ah, and the new 4 ah batteries are 5.5 ah? Either I'm misunderstanding you, you're way off on something, or Ryobi just makes stuff up.

I did. Using the 3Ah HP battery on a brushless circular saw, it out performs the 4Ah non HP battery. With non HP battery, it got stuck many times in longitudinal cut and could not finish the job. With the HP battery, it cut through 2x8 longitudinally without problem. Also, I did not pay 30% more for any HP battery. When you compare the deal prices, they are usually within 20% difference. Using non-HP batteries in brushless tools is a waste of money.
Age of batteries? Exact branding? Exact model of your circular saw? Any other troubleshooting?

I got that you think you found one exact tool the HP definitely works as expected with, but Ryobi themselves literally admit some brushless tools get no gains. For others they will only say 'the tool will perform optimally using HP', they never give specific figures unless it's 'Up to' ones. Also as others have pointed out the HP line is using the same cells as Lithium+. As they said that's BS and they are charging you to unlock performance. Open the packs up they don't look different enough to warrant even a 20% $ difference.

Again my point is that does not warrant ONLY buying HP batteries. If you truly feel your saw needs them, great, get enough for your normal projects and no more. Save cash with Lithium+ and get more AH for all the tools that don't benefit from HP.

If you are still only buying HP Batteries then care to comment on the two videos I posted? The HP Batteries did not appear to warrant the extra price until you got to 9AH and that price is insane not to mention heavy.

I purchased two regular batteries back when they were on sale for $60. At best, they last as long as my 3+ year old High Performance batteries. So, for those asking, these are the ones you want. They have more capacity and more power especially if using brushless tools.

Why are these better than the PBP05 batteries in a two pack that is available for only $79 right now?

Both batteries are pretty new and test in the same day on the same piece of wood. There is a youtube video from a couple years ago showing the same result but comparing 4Ah non-HP with 6A HP batteries. Mine was comparing 3Ah HP and 4Ah non-HP that eliminated the high capacity factor. This finding is not new.

Would these battery also improve performance on brushed motor tools like brushless?

Bummed the 6ah aren't in stock… would love a couple HP versions of those for the battery-hog tools.

Their marketing confuses me, I got the HP brushless drill and impact set and got the HP batteries from tools direct thinking I needed them. But my HP drill/driver don't have the terminals for the HP battery. So how do you know what tools actually use the terminals ?
"Brushless" motors are a major selling point. If they aren't proudly bragging about the tool being brushless, it won't have the extra contacts and won't be able to take advantage of the extra amperage from high performance batteries.

No. Tools with brushed motors aren't designed to pull the extra amperage even if you give them a battery that can supply it.
