In my experience, Outdoor Research is a better value option for entry-level priced gear for outdoor enthusiasts. They also often have sales but they sell out quickly.
Patagonia, Arc'teryx, Rab, etc. don't really have value-priced down jackets so that is how they maintain such good reputations.

Just a suggestion. I like Mountain Hardware (Columbia) apparel, but the Costco is half the price ($35) and the quality is just as good, if not better.
