lots of really old overpriced garbage even after discount, so shop carefully.
Be aware a lot of these systems will not technically support windows 11.
Yes these are old, but thanks OP for posting. At time of this post, there are 4 different configs available with i7 6th gen and 32gb ram.
Any of which would make a good blueiris security camera box for around $300-$345 shipped.

I guess most consumers are spoiled and always feel like they have to have the latest phone or computer to feel special or something. I've seen so many comments about this stuff being old, but it's not like over 6 years! I have customers still using computers over 10 years old and they are not complaining! At least these Dell refurbished computers are business class, not consumer grade crap you buy at retail stores. And being business class, they tend to support whatever OS you want to put on them! So what if the laptop is 2-3 years old, it will still work fine for most applications! I bought a latitude laptop last year from Dell refurbished with an i7 and other good specs for $400 something and it has been great. I could have paid $1300+ for it new but the price I paid for a previously leased laptop was reasonable!

$579 for an Opti 5050!? Holy cow. Not only is it not Win11 supported, you can find used 5080's at that price. You know, last years model with a 10th gen intel in it.

Or if you're attached to the 5050, at least grab a refurb off eBay and save well over $300.

It depends on your use, I suppose. Take that $579 Optiplex 5050 SFF for example. A fine computer, but also one with a processor that isn't supported on win11. Win10 is sticking around for another 4 years, but $579 for a computer that can't run the current Windows operating system is a little harsh. Especially when that same computer runs about $249 from third party refurbishers. For my money, if I only had $579 to spend on an SFF Dell, I'd buy a used 5080. It's only a year old, fully supported on Win11, and they pop up on the used market for right around that price.

Not to thread crap but a lot of overpriced old tech. Many must be off lease. There may be a deal or 2 but you need to know what you are buying.

I have bought two refurbs from Dell and they have been excellent values imo. Set your expectations straight and you'll be content.
Absolutely, set your expectations of value very low and you will be happy with your purchase.

The laptops are beyond off-lease. Those laptop CPUs are 6+ years old! ANY i3 from last year will be faster.
The desktops CPU are 4 years old.

Thinking about getting the Latitude 5480 (SSD version for $439-45%) for my MIL for xmas to replace her ancient desktop. Not very familiar with this price point. Is this a good enough deal to jump on now or should I wait for something better? Costco also has a couple laptops in their holiday brochure for $250-300ish, but the Dell seems like a way better deal based on the specs alone. I want to avoid chromebooks.

There's a lot of terrible deals, this is a hard pass on their prices.

The ones I looked at (Latitude 7490 with i7 8650U) were released mid 2018, so it's probably a 2 year lease model.

The discounts get to 50% sometimes and 40% off is like the regular price.

Dell's refurbs are old crap that came off 2-3-5 year leases. Never a good deal in those. Their outlet usually has better deals if you get one of the good coupons

Currently running my Plex server off an Intel Core 2 Quad Q8200. Not sure if that or my network is causing the issues with 4k content. What would be the best option to throw at it for that usecase?
I'm actually looking at some of these for a Plex. You want something with a UHD 630. There are a few optiplex with it, but even after discount, they are around $300 after tax and shipping. It's not really much of a deal.
