I really hate how BB puts one size on sale at a time. I need the 12TB size drives since my parity drives are 12's. But 12TB drives are more expensive than the 14s......

What's the advantage of a NAS over a windows PC as a Plex server?
Really depends on your use case. A NAS is a dedicated device, generally with a lower draw as you will be using a lightweight OS and limited services and applications. No issue with repurposing a system you don't intend to use though

A standard PC with a bunch of drives in there would work fine, but a NAS gives you all kinds of options for raiding your drives right out of the box. Most standard PC's will not offer raid. The primary purpose of raid is for performance reasons but can also be used for data redundancy.. People usually get bent out of shape about that, but it's true to some extent. If a drives fails it gives me enough time to replace it without losing data or system downtime. Also, they are usually a means of lower power consumption as opposed to a beefier PC's that do offer raid.

Uptime. Windows restarts ALL THE TIME for NO REASON. Unless you've already removed all that, it's really annoying to have your plex server restart. So I use a NAS for uptime, and just ease of use. I use UNRAID personally. Also for some redundancy in case a HDD dies, I have 2 parity drives to save me from 2 failures. Anymore and well, I'm screwed Smilie

I also use a server chassis for it instead of a normal tower for more HDDs. I can fit 24 vs however I could fit in a PC. Previous NAS was 15. Having the server chassis is nice for the easy hotswap HDDs cages for easy swapping of HDDs. Before, it was a pain having to open the whole PC up for HDD additions.

They were just on sale a couple of days ago for $200. Most people were waiting for this deal though.

In my mind, the biggest advantage would be drive monitoring (SMART). As far as I know, Windows doesn't let you know anything is going wrong with the drives, ever. You get to figure it out on your own, when you can't access your data anymore! I use Unraid with Plex running in a Windows vm, because I am too stupid to get Plex working in a docker container.
