Damn… gotta hold out for the 18tb's… hopefully this sell is an indicator. The 18's haven't been on sale since last holiday season. Sad we haven't seen 20 or 22tb yet, odd that progress halted.
Same boat as you. Bought last year 18TB at $279 minus Amex $25 offer. Only was able to get 3, and to make upgrading my synology worthwhile, I need at least 7... hoping the 18TB drops...

If anyone gets one and shucks it, make sure to post on here what's in it! I have a ton of EXOS drives that I got from shucked drives, but it's a crap shoot what's inside.

Yeah, folks said the same thing when the 12TB was $200 less than a week ago. I said I'd eat my hat if the 14TB didn't drop to $200 by/on BF/CM and here we are weeks out and it's already that cheap.

There's a surplus of these now that manufacturing has ramped back up and they will continue to drop in cost to pre-pandemic pricing, mark my words.

I'll eat my hat if it doesn't drop to $190 by/on BF/CM. You people don't understand basic supply and demand if you think $200 is a "good deal" with BF/CM right around the corner and a ton of inventory to move.
Maybe saving an additional 5% in the future doesn't make this a bad deal.

"Maybe you don't understand basic supply and demand" followed by assuming that you have any idea about the state of Western Digital's inventory is too much douchebaggery. Tone it down.

WD plans for these sales every year. It may not end up happening every year, but they don't accidentally make way too many drives every single year that they have to sell at a loss.

Why isn't anyone talking about this:

Pair that with this deal and you're golden.

FWIW I did this type of deal a few weeks ago. The associates said the HDD Recycling is under a different section in their system IIRC it was under "trade in" instead of "e-waste recycling" the associate told me he doubted the coupon would stack but when we got back to the register, boom, it just worked no special approval nothing. 15% off the sales price.

How's $170 for 14TB ? Got get your free Microcenter thumbdrive and flip it for 14TB for sub $13/TB

This made no sense to what I said. Do you think this is a great deal or not?

I don't know if that's always true with WD. But I can tell you that I heard of others who got junk drives in Seagate externals, and when I opened mine, all of the 14TB drives were EXOS. Is there any chance that these could be decent drives? I thought about running to BB just to buy and see what they show up as, and then return if I don't want them. Wouldn't CDI show what the actual drive is inside?

Chase offer is 10% max $25. Amex is 25 off 250 min. For 1 drive use Chase. You'll have to pad to 250 for Amex.

bought one last week and waiting to do a price match, $70 less. Bought a second one too.

Edit: Pricematch done on the one I got last weekend, and ended up ordering another one, so will have three of these. Plus getting $25 back from AMEX offer I activated this morning.

If you shuck the drive and it goes bad down the road, could you put it back in the enclosure and return it? Or will they not accept it? I'm new to this.
