Tom's HW review says the crucial P5 runs quite hot. If you need an m.2 drive for a laptop you might consider a Hynix Gold P31. With $10 AMZ coupon it goes for $119.

OP, when posting SSD deals please include to your description if the product has DRAM or no DRAM. Thank you.

How does this compare to the Inland Premium SSD?

or what is the best pcie 3.0 ssd atm for its price? is it this one?
Performance-wise, you will not notice a difference between the Inland Premium NVMe drive vs the Crucial P5. Tech specs might have Inland with a slightly slower read/write speed, it is not enough to make a difference. Buy which ever one is cheaper.

For price, this P5 is probably the best price for a good TLC NVMe drive with DRAM. I personally have the Silicon Power A80 1TB and it is currently about $5 more. Also TLC with DRAM.

For PS5, you need to make sure that it is PCIE gen 4. This is a gen 3 drive. Like the other user said, you need faster speed and the correct amount of PCI lanes.
Why does PS5 need such fast drive? I have both this and and the plus gen 4 version and my computer plays games just fine. I can't see the difference.

Tom's HW review for the 1TB

So this drive is not good to use in a laptop as it runs a little hot?

Honestly, it really doesn't. It was a marketing point for Sony and I think they focused on the wrong thing for their console. Should have put that into more processing power and smaller console. Once you are up to a certain speed, it is diminishing returns. When you are down to single digit seconds loading time, cutting it even in half doesn't really make a difference or even noticeable.

In tests with a significantly slower drive on PS5, they found minor hitches that are almost unnoticeable to boot.

My prediction is that, most developers will develop for a slower drive speed, because people will install slower drives in their PS5, just like they did on the PS4.
