The Costco one comes with a Flex Edge beater attachment while BBY one comes with Flat beater. I find the flex edge beater significantly more useful than flat. This attachment is currently listed for $30 at Amazon. Take that into consideration when comparing the two.

KitchenAid has dropped the prices since mid July. Sam's Club has them for $359 but you get additional accessories (Bakers Bundle); extra bowl and 5 attachments.

For $90 (including tax) you can buy the 3 qt bowl & wire whip on Amazon, or even from Kitchenaid. Reviews say the smaller 3 qt bowl is fine but they dropped the ball on the whip, it doesn't do a very good job and some say that whip is useless.

My question is why is the 5Q Pro at Best Buy regular priced at $499 and the 6Q Pro at Costco has a regular price of $379?

You get $100 off at Costco but $279 off at Best Buy!

I can't believe the one at Costco is a better/more powerful model if it is regularly priced 25% lower.
The Costco one is specific to Costco, so not exactly comparable to other models. I had this same confusion at first and why the non-sale price was so low at Costco. Costco has the "Professional Series 6" with model number KP26M9, while the regular model is the "Professional 600 Series 6" with model number KP26M1X. Costco model has 590 W vs 575. And the non-Costco model specifies the "Professional 600" on the front of the unit. I found a thread on Reddit with more info, and from what KitchenAid support said they should be identical as far as accessories and attachments. However, I don't have this model (though I am considering it) so can't speak from experience.

Buying appliances can be difficult to sort out because a manufacturer may change the internals or the accessories depending on the store that orders them. For instance, the Pro 6 series from Costco has 15 Watts more power than a Pro 6 you buy from other stores (590W vs 575W) though that difference is negligible. However, the difference in wattage is significant when comparing the Pro 5 Plus (525W) that I bought from Target a couple years ago with the Costco Pro 6 series (590W). Confusing the matter is there are or were 450W Pro 5 Plus models. I see one on Amazon currently. The Pro 5 Plus on Best Buy states 525W.

Both Pro 5 Plus and the Pro 6 use metal parts. Both have a plastic part that will break if load gets to be too great. This is to prevent a motor failure - much costlier than a sprocket to replace.

Somewhere in a link I read in this thread it was said the Pro 5 Plus does not have an electronic speed sensor. It does. Both Pro 5 Plus and Pro 6 models do. Both models also have the Soft Start feature. Nice.

A 6 quart bowl may have problems with small quantities, like 1 or 2 egg whites or a vinaigrette, and a smaller bowl (3 Quart) will be better but adds cost. I am not ready to buy a smaller bowl for my Pro 5 Plus 5 quart bowl but I see why people do.

FYI - no matter what mixer you get make sure to first do the beater to bowl clearance test and adjust if needed. The first Pro 5 Plus I took home would not adjust properly but the replacement worked a charm.

The issue is what do you want to do with the mixer and how often. The stiffer the mix, the more the mix (batches) at one time, the more often you plan on doing that mix needs to be considered. Both can do bread and cookie dough but the more power the better for stiffer dough, more batches per time, repeating batches in same day, and making batches multiple times per week.

The included coated accessories are great. It seems Kitchenaid is using more stainless steel for accessories and that is preferable to burnished aluminum IMO. Burnished aluminum accessories will oxidize if water is left to dry on them and a grayish or blackish powder will rub off, including into the food being mixed. Wash and dry immediately to prevent this. Stainless steel and the coated accessories do not have this issue and are dishwasher safe. The burnished aluminum works but needs a little attention after washing.

A flex edge beater will not eliminate scrapping but will reduce the times needed to manually scrape. I bought a knockoff and love it.

I do not use a pouring chute/shield but wouldn't object if the Kitchenaid Santa sent me one or, better yet, a sifter + scale attachment.

I have the Professional 600. It included the clear plastic splash guard, flat beater, dough hook, and wire whip. I do big batches of pizza dough, it handles that easily. It's a very strong running machine. The only complaint I ever read was some people felt the motor was loud, however; I don't find that to be the case when I use it. If you want reviews go to Kitchenaid's web site, there's over 1000.

It's a mixer. It mixes dry and wet ingredients alone or together.

Google "Kitchenaid mixer recipes" for ideas. Here's 104 recipes for a mixer...

https://blog.williams-sonoma.com/...and-mixer/

It can mix up a batch of batter but you may more easily overmix the batter and end up with heavy and chewy pancakes. Clean up may be more as well. Somethings are better done manually. Unless you're feeding an army and then an industrial mixer comes in handy. (pun intended)
