You always pay for batteries. If you feel like you have gotten batteries for free then the marketing department did what they aimed to do, but you still paid for batteries 😉

Not sure, but there must be better batteries inside. Now that all Ridgid batteries have the LSA, this pair of 4AH batteries looks to be a great deal. No other brand I know of sells them at this fair price with the LSA. This thread should get more thumbs up, I think the average person here does not know that this is free batteries for life after purchase.

It would be a higher peak DISCHARGE current. 18650s can have higher discharge ratings but the same capacity, which is generally going to cost you more. What that can get you is more torque with the same tool, if it can handle it, since peak discharge current is what matters there.

I'm assuming these batteries will work with the tire inflator from yesterday's deal, so this is almost perfect timing.

Sorry if this is a stupid question, but is there any way to charge it from the device itself or are these useless without the charger?

You need a Ridgid charger to recharge.

Indeed. On the up side, I find chargers fairly plentiful on CL, OfferUp, Facebook Marketplace, etc because buying batteries kits with chargers was the only way (until now?) to get LSA on the batteries. I have four chargers and really only use one, maybe occasionally two. Look around, I'm sure you'll find one for under $20.

Exactly what he said. New Ridgid batteries have lsa without kitting.

Ridgid changed their policy now batteries purchased by themselves are covered for LSA
After watching several battery comparisons on YouTube that show how much more power tools have with Max/Octane batteries over standard lithium they are what I will be purchasing going forward.

So basically there is no point in using a Max battery on a LED light, vacuum, or a job site blower. ???

I bought the screaming deal kit from about 6 years ago where the Gen5X brushless hammer drill, brushless circular saw, charger, "Hyper LI" 2ah, and 4ah batteries were included for $109. This has been the best tool purchase of my entire life, followed up by by the cordless Ridgid wet/dry vac earlier this year. The batteries show absolutely no signs of slowing down or needing replacement.

I'd definitely like to have another couple batteries around, but don't "need" them at all yet.

What is the difference between the older Hyper LI batteries I have and the Max?

The max is really for the newer max tools lineup, it gives them 20% boost in power. While you can still use it for gen5x, i don't think you get the boost.
