Last year's model; Makita released newer models of this impact and drill but they are now packaged with 1.5ah instead of 2.0ah batteries. For comparison the new kit is $160ish at HD
HD had better overall values on this kit last year when you factor in it's prorated value (was bundled with various items)
Still a solid deal
Edit: I bought this for $149 from Amazon on June 1st so CCC might not be accurate
I need to copy and paste/save this sometime. I write this short summary everytime these come up. I am a professional carpenter .I install interior finish elements in an office setting. We hang markerboards,push-pin boards, acoustic panels, etc. I use a Makita subcompact impact driver on a daily basis . I am continually driving pan head self tapping screws through aluminum, drywall and into metal studs. Other crew members have used Dewalt, PorterCable,Milwaukee Fuel ,etc and after a month or so realize the Makita Subcompact is the lightest, ergonomic impact driver that suits our needs. And when they are on sale they've all upgraded/changed brands/converted to the Makita. I generally ,out of habit change my battery just before lunch and swap out for the afternoon/next morning. Will it break free the lugnuts on my car? I don't know,it might,I have not tried. I have a cordless impact WRENCH for that. For those that say it's a bit longer, hard to get in tight spaces, do y'all realize most people use these with a 2-1/2" bit holder protruding out the chuck so 1/16" between last years and this years model don't mean squat. I'm sorry even for a DIY ,this is light years ahead of Ryobi. Ryobi does have quite a range of available tools , but if I'm driving screws all day I'm going for lightest weight, best erogonomic , most comfortable driver I can find. It appears Ryobi has gotten a few lighter impacts/tools to market so the tide may change slightly in the future but for me Makita works very well day in -day out.
Lying for profit is fraud.

Just bought the Ryobi set a few weeks ago for $92, is this a lot better than the Ryobi? Debating on returning the Ryobi set and getting Makita, Dewalt, or Milwaukee.

Those systems will be more expensive. Keep that on mind if you plan to expand.

The new kit also has a worse charger in it.
So it's basically picking between new impact + drill vs better battery + charger.
I can't find a lot of information about what was improved with the newer models.

If you will not expand your tool collections, or you are willing to spend more money on future tools, Makita is a better choice. If you are like me, getting more and more power tools, ryobi one+ family can save you some money on tools and batteries. I have cordless ryobi for convenience, and a 8amp corded drill for more power (rarely used)

Ryobi is good for most average homeowners. If you have spare money, go ahead ad upgrade. Or if you do quite a bit of projects, invest in the higher end. I use my tools quite a bit in the summer. But winter time, I seldom use them. Ryobi works for me.

Just don't get Masterforce. They are garbage imo.
I've had my ryobi 18v set that I've been building for about 13 years now, and have gotten tons of use out of them. The drills are my most used so just curious if now is a good time to change the drills.

New Impact driver is marginally faster with the same torque, not much. I prefer the bigger battery and fast charger too.

What is the Amex promo? I have the blue card. Didn't see it in my offers.
