Don't get burned. Happened to me many years ago, bought an iPhone 5c from GameStop thinking it's legit, phone worked for 6 months then it got flagged as stolen and blacklisted

Could you not prove that it was a legit purchase ?

Even if you can prove you purchased it legitimately you can prove that GameStop did. Apple will not honor devices already marked in their system.
Also purchasing from GameStop, they refurbish the phones themselves. The newer phones have certain parts apple checks. If any of those parts are replaced not by apple and the phone doesn't work apple won't repair it.

How can it get flagged as stolen after the fact if you already attached it to your Apple ID & turned find my on iPhone? Sounds like if that truly happened all you'd have to have done is print off a copy of the receipt and either have taken it to an Apple Store or emailed it to them

Doesn't work that way. It's not Apple that's blacklisting them. It's the carrier it was originally financed with and they don't care if you bought it elsewhere after the fact. It's technically still their property and they can blacklist it. This happens all the time on Craigslist. The last time I sold an old iPhone there the guy said he just bought one but it was blacklisted after he started using it and the person who sold it changed their number.

Right, and those carriers can be so heartless. They won't tell you anything that's going on with your phone that suddenly stopped working for "privacy reasons". Even if you show a receipt. This is a tricky deal…if you bought a phone from GameStop then before you start using it you would definitely have to call the carrier or better yet visit their store in person and have them check out the phone you just bought and see if it's clear for usage. I say go in store because they're more likely to check for you. AT&T refuses to check imei's out over the phone in my recent experience.
Price is ok. Most of these can be bought for less on Swappa. At least with Swappa you can see what the phone condition is too.
Swappa is junk now. It's all reseller shops and two of the last three items I bought were reported as stolen and blacklisted a few months after I received them. Swappa did nothing and said good luck with your PayPal dispute.

I only buy from sellers with low sales counts. Would never buy from a reseller. It always made me wonder where someone would get 30 current model like new iPhones from. I see Swappa is trying to save face by having a separate listing section for resellers.
