Best Buy (and Amazon) have the S33 for $170. Seems like best deal in history was ~2 months ago at $150, but that most deals happen at $170.

I'm tempted - with the Black Friday guarantees…

I'm trying to get off my Xfinity rental - waiting a month means my savings holding for $150 dips to $6.

I recently "upgraded" to their xFi because it'd be $30/month to add unlimited data, or +$25/month for xFi which includes unlimited data. 🤷 ♂️

I'll pass. Still not a good enough price to fork over $170. A better price would be like $129.00 for a black friday sale.

Such BS how Xfinity handles the data cap. Glad that I've got WOW in my area and luckily I don't (yet) go over their 2.5 TB data cap.

I'm doing the same thing too, though I would prefer to use my own modem. It would cost me more to use my own modem with unlimited data ($30/month) than subscribe to xFi with their modem ($10/month for 2 years), so I grit my teeth and use xFi. I just set their modem to bridge mode anyway

Thinking of this myself. Need the unlimited data as I've got a big data household (multiple WFH, multiple video addicts bounce, plus a reasonable amount of software testing and downloads). Was thinking that with xFi I'd need to use their Wifi portion and would need 3 of the extension links. Currently I'm using 3 T-Mobile AC1900 reflashed as ASUS AC68U's in a aiMesh setup and just get enough coverage (one on each floor and somewhat staggered). Hadn't been thinking about getting the xFi and just using it as a modem.

How did you get the $10/month for 2 years deal?

Beware of Amazon. I bought 2 from them recently, supposedly brand new (amazon was seller). Both were previously opened and missing documentation.

From my experience, the xFi gateway they provided wasn't very good, even acting as just a modem/bridge mode. For my use case with unlimited data I hit sustained high speeds, not bursts of peak speed, so as far as I can tell their gateway was throttling with my network speeds tanking at random intervals. Went back to my 8200 and got back to sustained speeds, but then moved on to this S33 so I can enjoy the overprovisioned 1.5gigabit speeds.

If you aren't going to tax your network 24/7 you are probably fine with the xFi gateway. But yeah I tried to save 5 bucks a month with that and it didn't work out for my setup.

Is it just me or does every modem/router you buy have to be reset almost daily due to dropped connections, etc? I feel like I've purchased 5 or 6 different devices over the past 10 years and always have to reset them to get my internet connection back. I have Spectrum (Time Warner before the merger). Even the devices you rent from them have to be unplugged and plugged back in at least a few times per week lol…

I have Spectrum and this Arris S33 and it is rock solid. Months of uptime. Very steady high speed connection since it can access the docsis 3.1 channels.

If you have lots of dropped connections and need reboots that's probably your wifi router. Those are generally buggy POS that manufacturers barely support, get in the middle of all your connection states with NAT and SPI and useless stuff like content filtering, print servers, media hubs, network storage.. all running on as little ram as the manufacturer can get away with.

This S33 modem isn't as discounted as it could be but it's a solid performer.

Just moved to a Comcast. I have an Orbi and was wondering if anyone who used this (or their xFi crap) was able to easily use a similar mesh setup.

Since adding unlimited data would cost $3/month or $25/month more for xFi that included unlimited data, I recently "upgraded" to their xFi service.
