I just ordered this over Fitbit Sense for $189 (Costco).

Been researching fitness trackers to replace my Charge 3. Sense has bad/mixed reviews and Fitbit has had quality issues with every tracker I've bought over the years.

I have heard great things about Garmin products and my research convinced me to buy this one over Charge/Versa/Sense. I didn't want a big, round watch but there's some great Garmin round watches too (Vivoactive 4 and Venu were on my shortlist).

Plus I don't want to pay Fitbit a monthly subscription to get access to my own advanced fitness data. Garmin makes it all available for free - that's the way it should be.

You cannot compare them. They are completely different animals.
Apple watch is fully blown smartwatch, essentially your iPhone on the wrist. Yes, it has basic fitness tracking functionality, but that's exactly what it is: basic.
Garmin is first and foremost fitness tracker, designed and optimized for this purpose. Yes, it has some basic smartwatch functionality, but it it's a few very basic things.
Don't get me wrong: both are great products, they are just designed for different purposes.

serious question, i checked the description and it's got GPS. so, im wondering why the absence of a compass is it's downfall when GPS, among other features, pretty much have the same functionality of a compass? am i missing something?

I've had the Vivoactive 3 Music for a couple of years now and I love it. However, I think the battery might soon be an issue. This (music version) or the Vivoactive 4 for more $$$?
i have the V3 without music, use it everyday for 3-8 mile run . . .3+ years still going strong!

Has a plastic body instead of metal, smaller lower resolution screen than the Fitbit Sense for $190.

Thank you for the deal. I've been on the fence with the deal on the Fitbit versa 2. I'm glad that I held off, this looks much better for what I wanted it for.

I have a vivoactive 3 and it isn't a golf watch, but it does let you download golf apps that work with GPS to tell you distance to the pin at different courses. You can save course info to the watch. People asked me the distance instead of using their rangefinders.
How does that work on either the Venq or the instinct? I have an Approach S40 that is their lowest golf watch and it just keeps club selections/scorecards/stats, green distances/shapes, and raw distances to hazards/approaches. Do you know how these ones handle those stats? I've been missing vitals monitoring and a few other things. TIA!

In the Garmin Connect IQ store, they have the Garmin Golf app. It handles the scorecard, club info, course info, stats, and GPS info. It also keeps track of your Garmin devices, so I imagine there is some possible data sync capability...but don't quote me in that.

Serious question.. How is this compare to Garmin Vivosmart 4.
After using VA3 for 3+ years traded few months back with Samsung watch and gave it to wife.

If this is comparable to VA4 I will get it because I am kind of bored wearing round watches.

Also, at the same time don't want to spend lot of money for Fenix series watch.

My usage is really covered by VA3&4.
Please chime in..

The bargain is the last gen Venu at $199: https://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Sma...B07WLN9RYD down from $399.
Hi, do you think the Venu first gen watch is a better buy than the Venu Sq for $130 at Amazon?

Note, I don't need music on the watch itself. For example, I'm not looking at the Venu Sq Music. But I know that the Venu does this, which is a nice plus.

Kind of a toss-up... I like Fitbit better for the holistic health picture you get with the more detailed sleep and health tracking the Charge 5/Sense can do. The Garmin doesn't have that, but others swear by Garmin's for workout tracking. Also, Garmin doesn't have a "Fitbit Premium" like upsell to ignore.

I haven't had a Garmin for a few years, but recently went back to Fitbit (Sense) from an Apple Watch and I have to say I'm enjoying myself a lot. Both are good options.

I look at it this way. None of these smart watches have replaceable batteries. Thus they have a end of life once the Li-ion battery starts to diminish in capacity, usually around years 3-4. If you're content with the shape of the Venu Sq and the lack of an altimeter, that's your better bargain. Most likely when it comes time to replace the watch in 4-5 years, you'll get more features for the same price down the line.

I upgraded from a 5 year old VivoSmart HR to the Venu Sq. What I liked about this was the addition of GPS, PulseOX, colour screen and replaceable standard watch bands. The latter was the downfall of the previous gen as it was costly and a rather poorly designed watch strap as that usually is a point of wear and tear with all watches. If you do go with a the Venu Sq, I would suggest getting a clear cover from Amazon as it will protect your investment. It might make it look a little like a toy watch, but I've never cared what others have thought about the watches wear.

Would like to know as well for each device life expectancy. Many discussion in different forums tend to mentioned fitbit to have shorter lifespan 2~3 years. I also owned Charge 3, towards the end of the 2nd year, the screen started to deteriorate quickly and having random vibration. Would like to know about garmin devices, especially venu sq.
