Get the harbor freight chrome vanadium garbage impact sockets for $27 or spend $3 more for good chrome molly sockets. Tough choice.

i use harbor freight deep impact sockets on my S regularly to change out my rims from 21" sport, 19" sport and 19" winter and have never had an issue. I bought the set for $17 4 years ago and use them with my Bosch freak impact drill

It doesn't really matter if you're not a pro.

Okay, all you had to say in your reply is that the HD Husky sockets have better quality metal. I don't see that mentioned anywhere in the comments and the SD FP post doesn't mention the metal either. I see that the OP's original post actually mentioned the metal.

The above said, I wasn't aware and not sure how many others are aware that HFT is using Chrome Vanadium for their impact sockets? They are thicker walled for impact duty, but Chrome Vanadium is definitely not the best metal for impact duty. HFT offers a lifetime warranty on the sockets, but warrantying sockets are a PITA, and HFT has been out of a lot of stuff as of late, so having to warranty cracked sockets is def not ideal.

Does anyone know if the finish on these Husky sockets is a smooth finish as in the picture? I've purchased black impact sockets in the past that LOOK like they have a smooth finish in their ad pics, but when you see them in person, the finish is much rougher. The higher quality smooth finish is definitely preferable if that's the case.
Harbor Frieght also sells chrome molly sockets for more money. More than $30.

I broke one with a light duty impact. I don't think a impact drill would break anything.

This, or the Harbor Freight imposter for $27? https://www.harborfreight.com/12-...69561.html

EDIT: HF is 13-piece; has 3 extra sizes on metric set (10mm, 30mm, 32mm) but missing 16mm.
10 mm is a must. I have yet to see an application for a 16 mm socket. 32mm is also nice to have. Personally, I bought a set that does not skip any sizes. It is more but I don't like incomplete sets. So I would buy a set from 10-19 without skipping sizes or an even bigger set but that is me. I don't care that much about price but prefer completeness and quality (items made in Taiwan definitely offer quality). However, I prefer magnetic sockets though (shallow and deep).

I looked but only found Chrome Molly impacts in 12 pt and standard size. To be fair, the Chrome Molly 12 pts were only about a dollar more for the entire set and less than $30. That said, I noticed the Huskys *appear* to have a nicer finish on them than the HFT sockets, but haven't heard anyone confirm the finish in the pics is the finish you get on the actual product.

From a HD review

Well constructed, but unfortunately a bit too well. These are too thick to use for wheel lug nuts which was the main reason I was interested in purchasing this set. Apparently I am not the first to discover this as the set I got was opened once before by someone else. Also, maybe just nitpicking at this point, but the socket rail it came with was way too flimsy for the size of the sockets. Also, personally, I think the size identifiers on the sockets could be a little more easy to read. Other than that I'm sure they would make a decent, cheap set of impact sockets for the right use.

I like the fact that no one mentioned the rust factor with HF crap. I will stick with Husky and not because I posted the deal its just better quality control vs HF. For those complaining of the lack of 10mm or 12mm, You should really be using 3/8in drive sockets for those bolts.

If you only work on Japanese cars, you probably won't use a 16mm, but American and European brands use them a lot now.

Also for those how don't need deep sockets for their 3/8" driver, HD discounted these nice & compact Makita Metric or SAE sets for $14.97 [homedepot.com]
I almost bought a 3/8 to 1/2 adapter, for 8 bucks. Spent a few more and got this instead. Thanks

From personal usage on multiple vehicles, the 22mm works fine on lug nuts, so unless they've got those insane tight bore recesses on custom wheels that requires a six point chrome socket to remove, I'd imagine the others will work just fine.

However that review is correct, the socket rail is cheap, flimsy, junk. I use the older Husky non-magnetic, twisting, lock-a-socket style that were clearanced several years ago for mine.

The size markings on the current Husky 1/2" impacts are roll stamped, not laser etched, so while they aren't as "bright" they will last longer, you just need to turn them a little to catch some light.

Kinda surprised this hit FP at $30. The free ship and lifetime guarantee are great, but HFT has a 13 pc deep impact set every day at $27 and Tractor Supply sells a 16 pc set for $25: https://www.tractorsupply.com/tsc...pkEALw_wcB [tractorsupply.com]
That Tractor Supply set is pretty decent, especially since, no skips!. I picked it up last Christmas. I'd still be using the 22mm for work if a co-workers Snap-On electric impact hadn't torn the shit out of the drive end. He didn't warn me the anvil on his impact was a bit worn out and had been slipping on him.
