Based on the 802.11AC version of these, the CT8, the internal antennas are only oriented vertically and another pair oriented about 30 degrees off-vertical in opposite directions. I'm guessing this didn't change in the AX versions, but it means signal barely travels vertically.

In my case, that meant needing a base station for each floor of the house (not directly under each other). It was cheaper to get routers with pivoting antennas, which I oriented in all different directions instead. Two of those covered the whole house.

Are you saying these are no good for multi story homes?

One thing to note about the Newegg deal is that they consider this product "consumable" and therefore do not offer refunds/replacements/returns of any kind. Something to consider in the unlikely event of a dud unit.

Not ideal, you need to stagger them as much as possible. An antenna transmits in a donut shape with the antenna poking through the donut-hole, so since all six of the antennae in here are vertical or close to vertical, there's almost no signal directly above or below the base station. You have to look for a delicate balance of "far enough apart that the signal has time to spread out vertically", but not "so far apart that the signal is already fading" or they don't always see each other well. An adjustable antenna makes this a lot easier.

Or you can run a network cable for wired backhaul between satellites, but then tri-band mesh is overkill.

what routers you recommend for a 3 story home if budget is not an issue?

How big is each floor? And three stories of full reception, or three+attic+basement that you also want covered? I have 2+basement covered by an AC88U and AC68P, about 2K square feet in total. I basically divided the house into thirds (lengthwise), and put a router close to the dividing lines with the antennas following x/y/z axes.

Covered better than the CT8 even though the hardware is six years old. Although it might still be time for an upgrade because the CPU is underpowered today. So if/when I replace, it'll probably be with AX86U or AX88U.
