More like 1mg for me. But I definitely agree that 10mg is WAY too much.
300mcg is all you need
Please guys do your research on melatonin..I used it for decades being in college and then when working nightshift as a nurse...even transitioning to day shift I did.

However there are multiple studies that show melatonin is not a great supplement. Can lead to anxiety depression. And kills your dopaminergic drive aka less motivated to get moving and do stuff. I am currently still experimenting on whats best to use albeit small microdoses of melatonin did in fact work. (I bit a small peice off a 3mg pill..can easily last 5-10 nights but I'm not even worried if I throw the piece out)

Although like I previously mentioned, I no longer use it for the main fact that it can inhibit dopamine which far outweighs the sleep benefits.

reading all these comments, I'm almost afraid to say I take 50 mg at night for like months at a time and that barely helps me sleep if not at all. Should I be concerned about any side effects 😳 ?

It affects everyone a little different. I would say stop taking it for a week or 2 and then if needed start at 3mg for a week and then move up if you really need it.

Like all things in life moderation is key.

Bleeding disorders: Melatonin might make bleeding worse in people with bleeding disorders.

Depression: Melatonin can make symptoms of depression worse.

High blood pressure: Melatonin can raise blood pressure in people who are taking certain medications to control blood pressure. Avoid using it.

Seizure disorders: Using melatonin might increase the risk of having a seizure.

Transplant recipients: People who have had a transplant often take medications to suppress the immune system. Melatonin can increase immune function. This might interfere with the effects of some transplant medications.

Oh goodness...some people are larger than others so for EVERYTHING: Food, liquid, medication, supplements, etc., some people need more than others.

As someone who dabbles in nootropics with nothing off limits, there are always people reporting some wild side effects and it's hilarious to me, because I'm always disappointed I didn't feel much at all. To see people going crazy over melationin? Goodness man, stop projecting. You have issues taking the lightest stuff aand can't handle anything, fine. Grown adults have been taking this and many other more heavy stuff for years and we're just fine. Often even better. Only thing that's disappointing about these pills, is that they aren't pressed pills. You can get away with eating half in that case and basically doubling your supply. But I used these before, same mg, and they're decent.

Only thing I suggest is not taking bendryl for sleep unless it's a last resort. It works extremely well, much better than melatonin, but that actually gives you fatigue and bad mood the next day. Not good sleep. Some people may be fine though. Everyone's different.

I see what you're getting at, but bear in mind that liquid melatonin is intended to be left under the tongue to be absorbed by the blood vessels. This product is intended to be digested rather than soaked in the mouth. As far as digestion is concerned, your stomach doesn't absorb anything and is just there to break down whatever enters. It's possible that much of the melatonin will be broken down in the stomach before it reaches the small intestine (the first area of the digestive tract where absorption takes place). Since you aren't marinating the blood vessels in your mouth with 10mg of melatonin, I wouldn't worry about it. The thing with melatonin is its delayed onset, hence why it's recommended to take it under the tongue to speed up the onset. Taking it orally and swallowing will take longer than your proposed method, but could be ideal with dinner.
agree, i take sublingual

I started taking melatonin 2 months ago because of sleeping issues. 2 weeks ago I had an anxiety attack. I believe it is from taking melatonin. I still recovering from it.

Question
I ordered multiple bottles, but only got 25% off of 1. Normal?
Anyone have thoughts on the expiration date of Melatonin? OK to stock up and use for a year or two after they "expire"?

Comment
(Not a scientist or doctor) - Have researched melatonin... seems like a reasonable dose for a "once in a while" usage, but I'd be concerned if someone was taking this every single night.

For those saying this causes issues, being such a high dosage...

I didn't think Melatonin was to be taken daily? Only when you are trying to alter your sleep cycle... or go to bed unusually early, etc.

I'm a night owl.. but a few times a week, try to catch up on sleep and take Melatonin. I don't think I'd feel comfortable taking 10mg every night...

Meh, there are some ways in which modern medicine is pretty advanced and borderline miraculous. Knowing drugs and what they do to your body and what the long-term effects are is not one of them.
Yes it's much better to take herbs thwt aren't regulated so you don't know what you're getting or taking, with limited scientific data of what it actually does and the long term effects of those either.

Natural doesn't mean anything

False dilemma. Does anybody know how to form a cogent argument?

The guy that spent decades studying and codiscovered Melatonin warns that you should never supplement over 1mg of it and the ideal dose is much lower. People are really messing themselves up just because it is labeled as a supplement where anything goes

You'll be fine. I've been taking 5mg for years. Nothing has "ruined" my sleep or health.

I was always wondering if splitting the pills would make it lose it's effect. what are the "pressed" pills?
