I was under the impression that these toys weren't meant to be ingested. Similar to a nylabone, which gets thrown out and replaced as soon as there's any sort of breakage so that the dog doesn't ingest any of the material. What are the natural alternatives we should be giving our pups?

For those of you who have tried these, do they pass the fingernail test.
The person who recommended the natural alternative was talking about tree branches. Also something I don't want my dog chewing on; they can be a problem if swallowed.
