Citi Custom Cash 5% credit card: new, better offer to earn $300 after $1000 spend available online

For those unaware, the Citi Custom Cash is a relatively new card that gives 5% back on up to $500 of spending each billing cycle in the category you spend in most (e.g. groceries, dining, gas). No having to figure out what the current quarter's bonus category is to get 5% back.
Previously the only offer available online for this card was $200 on $750 of spending in the first 3 months. You can browse that thread for more info and comments about the card. (There was a $300 offer available in Citi branches, but those are only found in major US cities.)
To find this offer, simply log in to Credit Karma and browse suggested credit card offers and you should see it. Alternatively, you can find a direct link on this reddit thread. I'm not posting the direct link itself as I'm assuming SD will mangle the URL.

I just got approved for this card with a 3k credit limit, I'll hit the $1,000 spending requirement on either a new tv or laptop this black friday to get the $300 promotion. Pretty nice welcome bonus.
Question about your Verizon paying method. Are you receiving the Verizon autopay discount monthly when you're using a paypal key?
My understanding was that paypal key provides you with a card number that gets coded as a credit card. So when signing up for autopay on Verizon, you wouldn't get the monthly discount since the system thinks you're using a credit card.
Please advise and correct me if I'm wrong. Just looking for different methods to pay so I can double dip the discount from Verizon autopay and from my credit card.
Thanks in advance!
Yes I am. That's the whole point of using it. And Key codes as debit, not credit, which is why it works.
Last I heard, you could also buy Verizon gift cards with your credit card for the 5% and then load the gift cards on your Verizon account to retain the autopay discount. I'd verify this still works before trying though as it has been some time since I checked. - Someone below said the GC no longer trigger category spend on his Amex and Chase cards so YMMV
So if I were to use this card only for my Verizon gift card purchase at the store each month for $500, I would get 5% CB each month?
I do this because this allows me to keep my Verizon autopay discount and use my current 5% Amex on cellular purchases.
However, Verizon has started to code those instore gift card purchases differently so my Amex is no longer giving me 5% CB on them
Serious question... is it worth it for a simple $25 per month maximum cashback?
I would not spend extra time going to a specific store, dealing with gift card risks, to save $25 per month. Now, just replacing the card for autopay, restaurant, etc might be worth it (no extra work, every month).
For me, dumping BCP is a clear choice, especially since the 6% is capped at the first $6000/year. Even if you max out your 6K spend, that gets you $265 after the annual fee, versus a fee-free $300 here.
You could possibly make up the $35 difference spending a lot on gas and streaming (which have a 1% and 4% margin over an everyday 2% baseline) but you'd have to spend a lot in those categories, IMO.
Combine that with a least one (or possibly even two) rotating-5% cards like Discover/Chase Freedom which cover groceries and/or gas at 5% for a lot of the year, the margin of BCP's 6% rate is way too slim for me to keep using it anymore. It's way more advantageous for me to have on hand a fee-free flexible 5% to use on groceries on the quarters that isn't covered by a rotating-category card (AND I can use this for another category, like Travel, in the quarters that Groceries is covered by another 5% card).
I must spent a lot on gas. I usually have $400-600 cash back on BCP and don't think I max out the $6000 on grocery… although probably getting close now with how much prices have gone up.
This Custom Cash seems like a good use for Home Depot / Lowe's. Every time I go I seem to spend at least $100… and they sell gift cards so not a bad way to spend out the $500/month.
I am thinking of applying for this and make it my default card for groceries. But I got Chase FF(1yr) times up for 5% grocery CB, CSP and Fidelity(both less than a month ago). Can someone know whether Citi has something like Chase has 5/24? Or i might get denied for applying many cards within a month?
