Citi Custom Cash 5% credit card: new, better offer to earn $300 after $1000 spend available online

For those unaware, the Citi Custom Cash is a relatively new card that gives 5% back on up to $500 of spending each billing cycle in the category you spend in most (e.g. groceries, dining, gas). No having to figure out what the current quarter's bonus category is to get 5% back.
Previously the only offer available online for this card was $200 on $750 of spending in the first 3 months. You can browse that thread for more info and comments about the card. (There was a $300 offer available in Citi branches, but those are only found in major US cities.)
To find this offer, simply log in to Credit Karma and browse suggested credit card offers and you should see it. Alternatively, you can find a direct link on this reddit thread. I'm not posting the direct link itself as I'm assuming SD will mangle the URL.

Serious question... is it worth it for a simple $25 per month maximum cashback?
I would not spend extra time going to a specific store, dealing with gift card risks, to save $25 per month. Now, just replacing the card for autopay, restaurant, etc might be worth it (no extra work, every month).
my family is $500 each month X .05% X 12 months = $300 for minimal work, besides stopping by a store for a few mins to buy it.
store is on my way so no more than 5-10 mins worth of time. worth it for me since i buy $1000 GC each time so i go in every couple months
Last I heard, you could also buy Verizon gift cards with your credit card for the 5% and then load the gift cards on your Verizon account to retain the autopay discount. I'd verify this still works before trying though as it has been some time since I checked.
I must spent a lot on gas. I usually have $400-600 cash back on BCP and don't think I max out the $6000 on grocery… although probably getting close now with how much prices have gone up.
This Custom Cash seems like a good use for Home Depot / Lowe's. Every time I go I seem to spend at least $100… and they sell gift cards so not a bad way to spend out the $500/month.
There are cards out there that will get you 4%-5% on gas: see cards from PNC, Abound Credit Union, USAA (must be military). If you're willing to use multiple cards you can always beat what you'd get back with the BCP due to its annual fee.

I combine/transfer my points to my premium citi card (citi prestige) for travel and usually get 2-3x value for my points. So when the 5% return turns into 10+% returns, then yes it can be worth the extra effort
Does this card only work at "fast food restaurants"? What about regular restaurant?
I don't have this Citi Custom card, but I do have the Citi Premier card. It earns me 3x points on fast food and non fast food restaurants, so I imagine the Custom card would do the same.

The Blue Cash Preferred is only better if you're the type that only wants one card, a convenience you'll pay for, and kind of stupid since it's a good idea to have at least a couple cards in case one gets lost or stolen. Also, having any Amex as your only card would be stupid since there are still places that don't accept it, especially outside the US. Which brings up the fact that the BCP charges a foreign transaction fee so it's not a good card for travel.
In short, you're better off with multiple cards, the Custom Cash is a good one, and the BCP can be beat by having other cards in addition (US Bank has a card that gets 5% on streaming with no annual fee).
So it seems like department stores are not one of their categories? I won't get 5% even if it's a local department store?

But the last few months, the in store GC are being coded as a GC versus as a service bill so my Amex/Chase Reserve aren't giving me the 5% CB
