On Black Friday, Costco has this one for the same price ($499) https://www.costco.com/hp-17.3%22...94976.html
Which is better?
The Costco one has:
  • AMD Ryzen™ 5 5500U (6-Core) Processor
  • 12GB DDR4-3200MHz RAM
  • 1TB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive
Costco one seems to have bigger storage, but I'm not familiar with AMD Ryzen vs. i5.
Thoughts?? Should I wait until Black Friday?
Yes, the costco model has a bigger drive but it's slow by today's stds. I'd personally go for the SSD drive via Walmart (or even better keep your eyes peeled for an NVMe drive). My 2 cents

The ryzen is a tad better than the Intel cpu aside from single core performance. I would for the ryzen.

Costco screen resolution is 1600x900 which should be illegal in 2021, specially for 17" screens.

Good deal however i made out like a bandit on the Target deal. I was able to get 3 of the HP 15-DY2035TG Laptops for less than $499 as all 3 were $482.36 + tax. My first order was lost in transit and i got a full refund only to find out a week later that the laptop shipped and will arrive tomorrow. The other two laptops I matched with Walmart $279 Laptop deal and got 10% military discount on both as well as used my Target Circle discount.

Although i agree with you on the higher resolution screens….but for folks like my parents, 1080 is good because small text is hard for them to see

Out of the box, after first mandatory update, it has 431 GB available. Nice to have a clean Windows 11 install and no remnants of Windows 10. It's snappy quick but I haven't really tested it with anything intensive yet. The 1080 screen looks great.
