All depends on how much lumens one thinks is "bright enough".

E.g. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4WS...e=youtu.be
WOW that's BRIGHT!!
I Need One!!
(3:18 on..)

You've got everything from tiny pocketable at 700 lumens on up (shorter runtime, but very small)

https://www.nitecorestore.com/Nit...-tipse.htm

to normal pocketables at 1000+lumens https://wowtac.com/wowtac-a7-cw-1047-lumen/

But in the woods, it's usually better to use headlamps to keep the hands free.

At minimum, 400 lumen rechargeable
https://www.walmart.com/ip/Ozark-.../517266765

If not the brighter models at rei.com

...

Among these, I'd personally go for the Ozark Trail 400 lumen rechargeable given how nice the 225 lumen AAA model I have has been. Cheap, bright, easy to operate and wear.

For a handheld in the woods, I'd even be thinking of a bigger Maglite LED model. Not because small tactical lights can't do brighter, but because you've got a good "club" against bears, wolves, etc should it come down to that.

Or bigger.

This flashlight is more than 3 years old. LED tech has improved immensely, Home Depot has the Coast G450 for $15-$20 all the time. The most recent iteration has >1600 lumens.

I got one for $7.50. It's a big light at 10" and weighing a little over a pound. As mentioned before, it's only running on 4.7 volts for some reason. Decent build quality, just a bizarre design.

Edit: I took it out last night onto a football field to compare to my Coast G450 (rated 1400 lumens). They both lit up the side of building 300 feet away very well, with an edge to the G450. IMO, I'd say it's definitely worth $7.50 , if you're okay with the form factor.

I also took one of the palm-sized Amazon 18650 lights in the green plastic case that are often posted here on SD for $10-$20. It's fine for general use but it was barely noticeable at that 300 ft. range. I know it's an apples to oranges to comparison. I'm just trying to let people know that they make different styles, types and sizes of flashlights for a reason.
