This was $135.99 Nov. 25th, 2021 at B&H. I just use it for music but seems fine. Perfect for my uses. If you are looking for transcoding you have to spend the money for it. The newer OS (DSM7) seems a little bit faster but if you use USB audio dongles and some other quirky, non-core, DSM features you'll lose out if you go to DSM7. It doesn't state which is installed on this one. I assume it ships with DSM6 since 7 only came out officially in the summer.
Thanks back-to-the-future mate! So I will just have to wait for a couple of weeks to get it at a lower price! 😂
On a slightly more serious note though, what's the chance of a lower price around Black Friday?
if you just need this as a network drive for sharing docs/pics, probably no reason to pay for for a 220+ right?
Yeah. I've used a WD NAS (white light) for so many years before Synology just for sharing and archiving, it's still running fine after 10 years, so sure, for basic sharing no need for high end material
A few dumb questions…… I'm trying to learn about these to set-up as storage for my wife's photography. Can she save her raw photos directly to the NAS so it doesn't slow the computer down so much? If so, which Synology would you recommend? I appreciate any help.

You can use the USB port of the DS220+ to download photos directly to the NAS
I love the Wind and Sea area...haven't been down there in months.
You think a 220+ or 220j could be used as a backup for a 920+, instead of paying Backblaze? It won't be offsite, but that's a very low risk event.
Beautiful out there today .
The 220J would probably be perfect for that. However, I'm not sure why you would go this route instead of a cloud storage solution. It would take several years from a cost standpoint for the 220J to be more cost effective.
I've been wanting to set up some of my family with Plex. I have them already set up with a mac mini for transcoding but need more storage. Would this work well for only video file hosting to serve Plex on the mac mini?

If you use office suite, (microsoft 365) can also use OneDrive (1TB), as a backup instead of backblaze.
i recommend, if you have the extra money, to get the next model up
better processor, more memory, and the ability to run more Synology apps
if all you need is a file server and backup operation etc....then this is sufficient i guess. i just always recommend you saving up a little bit more and getting the higher model

IMO this model is too slow for anything else.
NAS with 2 bays is always better than a single bay (Having a single drive is just begging for data loss).

No sh*t. It's almost twice as expensive.
Right
I have this and use it for the same, plus serve files to my plex box (NUC). Works great and much more cost effective.

Will there be ds220+? It's already the end of 2021.
