They had both this Slim Pro 7i and Ideapad 5 Pro on display at my store.. It seemed like the Ideapad 5 had more plastics, including a plastic trackpad. As far as what you get by paying $200 more for the Slim 7i Pro, you get an all-metal build, Thunderbolt 4, 400nit higher resolution 90hz screen, and 1tb SSD vs 512 on the Ideapad.. You do get a HDMI and microSD reader on the Ideapad 5 though.. I'd probably be happy with either machine, but I do enjoy using Thunderbolt storage and connecting eGPUs on occasion so the Slim 7i Pro was a better choice for me.. Plus the brighter screen is gorgeous on the Slim 7i Pro.

Please list similar/better machines for the money!
Specs are very good on this, hard to beat plus this is Intel EVO. I would be all over this if it was a Two-In-One. I'm planning on the Surface Pro 8 deal even though this processor beats out the one on the Surface 8

Is this a good deal for a work laptop? Don't do any gaming but do a lot of python scripts and always have a ton of browsers open.

It been on Costco book but no one was talking about it. Nearest laptop with about same spec is around 1500$ or am I reading it wrong? Nice deal IMO.

Yes it's quite fast in my opinion and has good cooling to sustain performance for long periods of time. It won't be as fast as a Ryzen 6/8 core but it's close but you're paying for nicer features on a whole here.

I think there are plenty of machine costing more that potentially get close to the total package but $899 i can't find anything close until you start cutting Thunderbolt and the screen quality out.

And Costco gives 4 year warranty with Citi, hard to beat that in $899.

As was stated in the original post, in-store availability seems to be YMMV. I stopped by my local store this afternoon and they did not have it (it was not on display at all). I went ahead and forked over the $10 to have it shipped to me from Costco.com. Looking forward to getting it later this week. I agree with the posts above that this ticks nearly all the boxes for an everyday general use machine that should (hopefully) last a while.

Yes the $1199 SP8 i5 package is a really good setup and should be of better quality on the whole (I have a i7 model). I will be comparing the Slim Pro 7i later today if they have them in stock.
I ordered the Costco Lenovo Slim 7 Pro for my non coding college teen for word processing and light gaming and he would prolly fill up the 1TB for music. He would use earbuds anyways or external speakers Im sure.

On Surface convertibles, I just cant get into laptops that cant type on your lap at home. Unless its just for office work and trips.

I would have gone with a Surface Pro 4 with great keyboard for him if BestBuy sale had a Ryzen 5 16GB on sale. My Ryzen 5700u laptop consumes 8GB easy with Chrome tabs, and really think 12-16GB for shared system memory use for the iGPU makes more sense.

Agreed.. I love the SP8 while it's on a table. when I need to use it like while i'm sitting in a chair or at the airport in a chair, it's basically useless to me. I don't ever use it as a tablet either since it's too big/clunky/heavy. I have an iPad for that.. so for me the regular laptop style (but still has touchscreen) is a perfect. I just keep trying to fall in love with the wrong form factory (I do this each time a new Surface Pro comes out). Lol.

Not to mention, I got 1.5 hours longer battery life on this 7i Pro streaming 4k content to both units doing a test yesterday.. Sp8 has no where near the "16 hours" of battery they claim.. I'll be making a few more tests to confirm.

Shame it's not in store everywhere... although I wouldn't steer you wrong - I really like the machine, to really love it at this point because of it's $899 price. Comparing it to the Surface Pro 8, the screen is within 95% of each other quality wise (SP8 a little brighter, contrast a tiny bit better). Speakers on the SP8 are better.. and that's about all the gains I see between the two. And I paid $1800+ for a i7 SP8 with keyboard cover + pen. So yeah, this is an amazing machine for the cost when it's this close to the SP8 i7 setup. Not to mention the i7 in the 7i Pro has a much higher sustained TDP and just runs circles on the SP8 as well..

5400~ score in CB23 on the SP8 vs 6900~ on the 7i Pro. That's a 27% increase in performance over the SP8 for $1000 less in cost.

Fans are quiet when they do kick on for the 7i Pro but if you're in High Performance mode they can get louder, but are still a pleasant wooshy sound, nothing high pitched here thankfully.

During medium loads, i'd say the SP8 and the 7i Slim have a similar fan noise profile but I will give the nod to the SP8 for holding out a long as it can before it even turns the fans on. The Lenovo is eager and happy to run the fans over more average tasks but it's rarely noticeable at least.

Pulled the trigger. I watched a couple of reviews on Youtube. It's basically a Windows Macbook for cheaper, but with so-so battery life.

The display is among the best out there and will probably be hard to beat at this price point. But from reviews, that high resolution can cause the battery life to tank to 8 hours. Not a big deal for me as I'm almost always near an outlet and in the few times I'm not, I generally need no more than 4 hours to get some work done.

The one thing you're losing vs getting a Thinkpad is that classic Thinkpad keyboard. This laptop's keyboard is pretty alright if not above average. But it's not going to have the key travel of say a T14 or a Carbon.

EDIT: Don't forget the 2-year warranty is standard. Buy it using the Costco Visa card and it gets a whopping total of 4 years of warranty support.

Anyone know if the SSD is easily upgradeable? How many SSD slots does it have?

Is the in store price different from the online price? I don't have a costco account so can't see the price on the site. May reach out to a family member to take advantage of this deal
